Electrical Systems: Remove and Replace Gauge Pod or Replace Idiot Lamps with Gauges

Electrical SystemsWritten By: Jim Isbell (JimIsbell)
Remove and Replace the Gauge pod or replace Idiot lights with Gages in a Fifth Generation El Camino. (may apply to others as well) I will only go into the mechanical process of removing and replacing the pod as several other people have covered the need for the required circuits and senders and gages.  Electrical Systems: Automotive Electrical Basics By John Delke

Electrical SystemsA lot of us without hesitation will completely disassemble an engine, transmission, or other intricate and precise mechanical device, repair it, and put it back together. But when it comes to why a lamp won’t light, or [multiple quote] “weird turn-signal, horn, name something” problems occur, a lot of us throw up hands in frustration. I hope this will help you to get an understanding of the elusive “Eddie Electron”, and his peculiar behavior. I’ll apologize in advance for being “too simplistic” but I write how I teach/explain. My descriptions will deal with DC circuitry, in negative ground situations.

Electrical Systems

1984-87 CUSTOM CRUISE III SYSTEM DESCRIPTION:

This system consists of a mode control assembly, (switch,) electronic controller (module), Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) buffer amplifier, servo unit, and release switches and valves. The servo unit maintains vehicle speed (throttle position) by trapping vacuum in its diaphragm chamber at servo positions determined by the control module.
