NECOA Status Report -- February 2005

As this long and grueling winter comes to a close, I’m sure you are all ready to ramp up our club activities again.  2004 has been a tough year for me both medically and career-wise, but things are beginning to look bright again.  I know many of our members had similar difficulties over the past year, and I hope you’ll forgive me for the tardiness of this quarterly status report.

Our membership will break the 5000-member milestone this coming quarter, as we expected and predicted.  If our regional directors and area coordinators start planning now for upcoming spring events, our rate of growth will continue to accelerate as well.  We do have a few leadership changes to announce:

Steve Frey (MI) was going to become Michigan Coordinator, but new family responsibilites for Region 9 Director Chris Hughes requires her to vacate that position.  So Steve become our new Region 9 Director and is already working on some great activities. Steve’s email address is 77ss@mail.com.

Allen Burch (CO) is our new Region 16 Director for Montana, Wyoming, Utah, and Colorado. He is retired from the U.S. Air Force and lives in Colorado Springs. His email address is bulletman700@hotmail.com.

Doug Hart (WA) is our new Region 19 Director for Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska. He has been very active in El Camino clubs in the Pacific Northwest and has been a moderator on ECC for some time.  His email address is dughrt@aol.com.

Rob  -------- (CA), better known as “Poltergeist” has been added to our Board of Directors and is increasingly assisting Robert More in administration of the website.  He replaces Peter Brown who is no longer active with us.

We have been in contact with other members about stepping up into roles as area or state coordinators, in those areas where there are enough members and sufficient interest levels.  Some of you may also have noticed that we have had some very spirited discussions on our website about the layout of our current regions.  This layout was set out by Dan Smith when we had less than 100 members.  Now that we have grown into a rather sizable organization, we are willing to consider redrawing those lines to reflect membership levels in particular areas, and most especially when someone is willing to step up as a leader in that area.  So, please keep this concept in mind as we grow, and continue to offer suggestions for these necessary changes.

Also being sent to each of you under separate email, is a list of members in your region who have provided their location in their member’s profile.  Please try to use this rough list and develop it better by sending an email notice to your members about upcoming events you are planning for this spring.  Continue to refer to http://www.hemmings.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/events.main for information about existing shows and events in your area that you may wish to attend as NECOA members.

Thanks to all of you for your efforts in continuing to help our club’s tremendous growth!

John Harris, NECOA National Director
