I've gotten alot of gawkers but not that many offers anymore. The best I got was 7,500 and that was when I lived in Orange County. This is with my horrible paint job (however looks pretty good now that I've had the oxidization removed)
Now that I'm working on it, it's my baby. Problem is it's not really solving my muscle car fix, I might buy a 72 nova or something, but my elky sure looks mean when the rear shocks are inflated with my rims and she's all polished up.
I figure I'll alter my hood and I'm really looking for a way to change the grill, I'm not happy with it at all, but what can you do. Perhaps some fiberglass may come in usefull
After that I can see what real offers I get
Btw my parents (the people that initially purchased the elky) said they would put me in the ground if I ever sold it. lol

I actually drew a crowd at Lowe's this past Saturday. I guy came up to me as I was putting my purchases in the bed, and asked me all sorts of questions about it, and went on to tell me about his '85 Elky. (Of course I handed him a card.)
While I was talking to him with my hood up, two more shoppers drove up to ask if I was selling her. I said no, but asked how much he was willing to offer.
I went on to give him my stock answer, "It's for sale, but only if you want it more than I do." _________________ Steve Frey

I know this is an old topic----but i'm new to the site.
I don't so much get the 'do ya wanna sell it?' as I get the 'how much ya got in it?'
The 59 was a complete body off, and has been fitted with a 454/5spd, AC, tilt, and much more. I drive this around a lot.
My small block 66 is a stock unmolested car that gets the 'ya wanna sell it?' A lot. This is also a nice driver and destined to become a commuter when the wife's car dies.
The BB 66, I just bought from my brother, fact.396/4-spd/tilt/tach/buckets, who refused to sell it to a kid with a trust fund. This car was resored about 15 years ago, and has since seen regular street duty.
I don't put the 'do not touch' decals on any of these, I'll even let people sit in 'em at a show, 'cause just lookin' ain't as good as sittin' in 'em.!
BUT, NONE OF THEM ARE FOR SALE

Welcome!
Wow a 59! That's a big project. I know there's some aftermarket parts available but as some of the other owners of that vintage will tell you there's still an unfilled need for that year.
The last one I saw was in a world of wheels show about 3 years ago in Phx,AZ. That thing was so perfect I would have been afraid to let the sun shine on it.
Anyone who takes on a 59 deserves respect. Great choice!

I am a manager at a junkyard and always park near our gate entrance into the yard, I have to constantly keep an eye on mine so people wanting elky and G-body parts don't start stripping it. Also my employees are already trained to tell inquisitive customers "sorry it's my bosses car and it's NOT for sale and never will be"
The all time best reactions I get cruising in my '85 is from kids usually around 12 or under. They dont know what it is and/or never seen one so they just gawk at it like... _________________ Chillin in Lauderdale
Sorta off topic, but a couple of months back I was in a parking lot parked next to a mini-van. Kid and mom are getting into the mini-van just about the time I start up. I've got headers, duals, and pretty free flowing mufflers so when it starts its a little louder than expected. The kid, standing next to the elco near the rear jumps and asks his mom "what's wrong with that car...why's is so loud". Mom answers "because it's a REAL car". And, by the way, even with the crappy paint job I ocassionally get the "do you wanna sell it" from folks.

I am always pleased to see these older thread resurrected.
No one has actually asked me directly if I want to sell my El Camino, but it was in the Auto Transmission workshop for weeks and when I picked it up the guy said that at least once a week people would be asking him if it was for sale. _________________ John (from Down Under)

I've had mine for over a year now and it's not perfect,it's Gold and white two tone, over the cab is Gold and a long the bottum, with tinted windows. It has some rust spots on it. I've been asked acouple of time lately if it's 4 sale it, but no offers. Driving around I always get the looks then some people holler and give thumbs up (at least I hope it's the thumbs up). Mine sounds really cool and I call it Rolling Thunder, but it's louder lol. Every time I think about my Caballero or see it I think VROOM VROOM lets ride. Is it forsale Hell NO!! Even if I bought another, which I got two Elkies, still NOPE. Im just a Elkie addict Im keeping my Fix thank ya _________________ VROOM VROOM lets ride!!!!
Every single time I drive this car around ( and I have driven many in my life, Vettes, Cobras, etc) it never fails to attract a ridiculous amount of attention, almost to the point of my wondering as to what is the attraction ? _________________ Chillin in Lauderdale

I had a great weekend with my Elky. A guy who works at one of my clients came up and told me he just had to come over and tell me how beautiful my car was and then proceeded to tell me about his experiences with one just like it back when the 4th gens were new. Then one of my other clients I was at went just nuts over it. He's been my client for two years but never saw it before and he instantly started looking all over it. Then a guy stopped in the middle of crosswalk and said he wished his looked as nice as mine did. Then he proceeded to tell me about the 76 he has with a 73 nose.
I guess our rides are gaining popularity!
Of course then there was the 18 year old kid working the Burger King drive thru who didn't know what it was when I pulled up. Maybe I need to start going to Sonic...
I had to tell him it was much older than he was because he thought it was something new. Nice to see the next generation taking an interest though...Maybe a new El Camino could work _________________ 74 El Camino Classic - project car #1
