While there are no dues or fees for membership at El Camino
Central, we do rely upon member contributions to keep the site and server running smoothly. As membership grows, so does
site usage. Recently we have seen a huge jump in server load and bandwidth. As a result, at times we notice extremely
slow page loading. Many of you may have also noticed the new member rankings used to recognize supporting members.

Every little bit helps.

Those of you who have made contributions and have not yet seen your "Rank" changed, please be patient. It is all Robert More can do at the moment just to keep restoring the service. Everyone's contribution will be personally acknowledged after the new servers are purchased and installed.
In the meantime, if you have not sent in your contribution yet, NOW is the time to do so! We are getting close to our first goal, but not there yet. Please see the instructions as the top of this thread for details on how to do it. Thanks to you all!!
Just paypaled my contribution to keep this site up!
The web just wouldn't be the same without the ECC , so bump to an exellent cause! _________________ 1983 Chevy El Camino 350 tpi V8, the REAL car!

Just an update concerning contributions for the new server: Without tallying all paypal contributions, money orders and checks mailed in, off the top of my head we are right near our goal of $2000.00 for the new server. (I am actually hoping it is a little more so that we can also invest in a much needed uninteruptable power supply.) Between now and this weekend I will sit down and calculate the total, update members profiles to reflect their contributions, send out thank you notices and post a list of contributors. If the total is the amount needed for the server I will submit the order and have it assembled and shipped. Thank you eveyone for your support!

Thanks to all who have made a contribution so far. Just a few dollars more and the server can be ordered. However, the power supply is still a problem in Robert's area, and that equipment needs to be included in this upgrade, so let's not stop quite yet.
If you have not yet made your contribution, please do so this weekend. This is a very critical time for our organization, so please do your part!
Please see the top of this thread for instructions on how to send your payment in to Robert More. Thanks again to a great bunch of folks! _________________ View my El Camino
We are very close to our interim goal of buying the new server, but not quite there yet. Please send in your contribution so we can get back to the proper level of service for all our members and visitors. See the top of this thread for information on using Paypal or checks. Thanks! _________________ View my El Camino
I'm till a bit confused. Why does a server have to be actually bought? Why not get a dedicated server at an internet provider service such as iPower or Verio? You can get a virtual server for as low as $50 a month and if there are any problems they do all the service. Seems to me there are less headaches? Or am I missing something? _________________ Leo

That I have seen virtual servers are nothing but problems. Upgrades don't happen when you need them to the OS or they upgrade the OS without telling you and then your software doesn't run. Many of them don't backup the sites either so if a crash happens guess what? If ECC were a smaller site it would be a good deal.
Also I'm sure the $50 a month is for smaller sites without the bandwidth usage this site sees. _________________ '82 El Camino with an LT1 from a 95 Impala SS

I sent in another contribution via paypal this morning. We need the new server. Keep up the good work.
