Greetings all,

So excited, just got my '83 LT1/4L60E back from the shop yesterday afternoon (see pics). Still have some stuff to do before it is really roadable (gauges, AC some electrical issues Huh But, the drive back home (about 65 miles) was GREAT, the music of the duals was vunderbar!

Anyway, wanting to get cruise control going again and would love some input. Checked forums for appropriate posts and after some time did not find any. Hate to be taking space if this is old hat. Embarassed At any rate, any ideas from my mentors? Is the old unit from the 305 usable? Should I just get a whole new unit? Are there issues I need to know re: the new speedo (Equus electric pickup) I plan to install? Would love to hear your advice.

Thanks SOOO MUCH for so many of you who have helped me get through this LOOOOONG process. DK

I tried installing the cruise control servo from my '84, with 305in V8, onto the LT1 engine, but couldn't make it work. But in truth I've been chasing a couple other issues and haven't done any troubleshooting. It just didn't work on the first try--worked fine before the swap.
Not very helpful, but if I get any inspiration, I'll let you know.

For those that may be interested:

My cruise control was mechanical in that a cable went from old tranny to control box, and from control box to dash. Since my replacement tranny is electronic (4L60E[B][U]) found out I was right in assuming I needed to go to plan B.

"orfunauto" offered some great feedback. He has installed an aftermarket unit on his and many other rides by Rostra, sold by JC WHitney which costs about $125. He says it performs well, and he has had good experiences when calling the company tech people for input. Guess what I just ordered? Cool

The easiest and best solution is to use the electric servo cruise module that GM used those years. Most of them are the same but some have slight differences. If you keep with one off an LT1 you should be fine. Just look over the LT1 wiring diagram and it'll be a fairly easy splice and play deal.

These can also be retrofitted onto older FI systems if you know how. Luckily most actually use a 2k pulse which is what the older speedo sensors put out. Also for 90-92 TPI units the ECM puts out a 2K signal to run a cruise control.

Forgot to add... Nice swap. I have a TPI and may get around to an LT1 in it one day if a deal shows up.

Got an aftermarket unit by audiovox and can't get it to work correctly without installing fly wheel magnets. Would rather not go that route. Looking forward to hearing feedback from the unit Greywolf ordered.

Looking for an alternative. A Rostra unit perhaps?
