Gday all
New to the forums but looking forward to getting involved.
I acquired 2 el caminos from my father who has only recently passed away. One is a 71 ss clone ( blown 454 big block ) that is currently up for sale in Australia the other was a black 78 which i intend to keep as a daily driver and has not been registered in OZ.
I initially check cowl plate for the Z15 option but alas did not find it. I have just been down in the shed working on it to find the build sheet in the door.
The sheet has the option Z16 Black night
My question is does the Z16 option on the build sheet also indicate that this is a SS black night or could one have ordered the black night option with out having the SS z15 option

I just checked my documentation and in 78 there was no requirement to have the Z15 SS option in order to get the Z16 Black Knight option. The only requirement was that the vehicle had to be ordered with paint code 19 which was black. _________________ Ernie

Hi Amp88fan
My build sheet was in the drivers side door, sort of stuck to the lower section of the door panel
Can not believe that someone else has not found and remove before this.
The car has been in oz since 98 and has not been registered since then. I am hoping it will only take me under a month to get back on the road as it runs drives and is in very original condition with 32k showing on the speedo
The car was built in CA so certain factory's might have different locations that they might put the sheets. just with a bit of reading they could be in head liner in the door under carpet...
I found a post on the black knights and it is rumored that only 300 were built must make this the only black knight in Australia ..|
I am trying to find the engine number (350ci) although i am guessing it is a 150hp with the CBM prefix and being CA built where they have stict emission controls (or so I am told) also hoping matching numbers.

Cheers and thanks for the welcome 87ElCamino.
I am guessing I will be asking a few questions as being in OZ makes it harder to get information and parts.
Was more than happy to find i had a black knight ( still not 100 percent sure) and less so when its not a SS but after reading a few more post both the Z15 SS and Z16 BK are really just fashion accessories.
Although from what i can decipher of the build sheet it seems to have had a few options
A/C
6 way electric seat ( still working ) 50/50
power window and power locks (not working why i removed the door trim)
Cruise control (have not been able to locate yet.....
not sure on
GU1 Axel 2.41 rat ?
U14 IPn gauges
U75 power antenna ( can not find unless in windscreen)
Any help appreciated

GU1 Axel 2.41 rat ?
U14 IPn gauges
U75 power antenna ( can not find unless in windscreen)
GU1 is a 2.41 rear end gear
U14 is tachometer and gauges
U75 is power antenna in fender
(U76 is windshield antenna) _________________ Ernie

Hi Hemi 57
I am in Kyneton 1 hour north west of Melbourne.
Great to have another Elk admirer in Vic, as I will be in need some local help and info.
ie where can I get a front screen and whats needed to get my 78 through compliance, but not really being involved in forums that much i know there are rules and stuff.
so I will do a search.. and see if any Aust info on compliance and parts, if not i might come back with a few questions.
BTW are you currently an Camino owner and if so what year
Cheers 87ElCamino for the info just in the shed now looking it over. I think i found out where the cruise control might have been .... above the indicator stalk I found and empty opening and was guessing that this might have been a area where the Cruise stalk might have been.
Pulled the carpets and floor look like new, so far I can not find a spot of rust on this car, so the Californian weather seems to have kept this in pretty good shape.
Back to the shed before the missus gets home. _________________ 71 El Camino super charged 454 (sold)

Adam, I am sure I can help you navigate through getting yours on the road.
I have a contact who has windscreens, weatherstripping and other bits and pieces for American classics but his contact details are in my office desk, so hold fire until I can get that for you. His name is Arnold and he is from Bannockburn, just out of Ballarat.
We should set up a thread in the "Other Regions" section to discuss the unique stuff we need to do here. _________________ John (from Down Under)
