Hi to all out there!
I'm looking for some advice about the TH2004R trans, As i'm in the Isle of Man (uk) information on this tranny is limited. i've just installed the TH2004R as the TH350 gave up the ghost in my '77 caprice (sorry its not a El Camino) it has a electrical connector on the left side that i take to being the tcc, can i run the car without it connected or what damage will it do if not connected?

Those wires lock & unlock the torque convertor in 3rd & 4th gear.
It will suck gas more & create heat (internal slippage in convertor) if you don't get something like this.
They are fairly easy to install & not too expensive.
I like the TCI the best, but there's others out there. _________________ Have Fun! Bob

Many thanks for the link, i've now ordered that kit so hopefully it wont take too long to cross the pond!! It looks nice and simple to install I haven't had any slippage yet, but i've only done a few gentle town miles, so hopefully i haven't done any damage I take it its best not to use the car until the tcc kit is installed?

You should be OK, it's not much different than a pre-lockup convertor slippage, probably not noticeable. _________________ Have Fun! Bob

Ok, I've now installed the torque converter clutch lock-up kit which seems to work fine, the problem i have now is when driving very easy all gear changes are fine, if i drive it slightly harder it doesn't change up without flooring it!! What's wrong??? HELP!!! i was supposed to be going on a road trip in 5 days!! Aaahh!!!

Did you hook up the TV cable?
(Throttle Valve- it tells the trans where the load [throttle] is; to control throttle pressure which raises or lowers the shift points)
Both your old tranny and the 2004r should have 1.
If it's hooked up it may need adjustment.
Send me your email & I can send you adjusment instructions. _________________ Have Fun! Bob

Hello Barry. If you go to the "Forums" section of our website (Click on the link in the bar near the top of the home page) you can scroll down to the Transmission and Drive Line discussion area. Lots of prior postings there about your question, which probably involves the throttle valve linkage adjustments. Also try using "Search" feature and start by typing in the type of tranny you have just installed. This will bring up a list of all prior posts on that topic.
As we tell all new members: "Search" is your best friend here at ElCaminoCentral!" Hope you find the answer you need. Good Luck! _________________ View my El Camino

Or you can do that! _________________ Have Fun! Bob

The TV cable is connected and set to the correct WOT position by manually moving the throttle linkage, if i extent the adjuster by a click or two it starts to slip between gear changes! i'm not able to get a happy-medium. Here in the Isle of Man it is quite hilly so from time to time a bit of gas is needed, the car kicks down fine to drive up over a hill but once you over the car doesn't wont to change again unless you floor it by which time your up someones bumper!!!
I've fitted a trans cooler when i installed the tranny, would that be a problem? could it be a torque converter problem?
How fragile are these tranny's? would it stand a 1000 mile road trip if driven carefully?
Many thanks for your help!!
I have about 200,000 miles on my Buick Regal T-type with the turbo engine---these tranny's are solid if they are right and can burn up real quick if not...the shifting is a balance of the TV cable varying the line pressure and the routeing of the fluid within the govenor--(on the output shaft)--sounds like you may be having a problem somewhere in the govenor circuit......................Dan _________________ I don't think I have ever had a car that was "FINISHED"........unless it was totaled.
I Dont think it will make the road trip,
I think it time to pull this tranny out as its starting to slip between gear changes! which would be the best to rebuild, my orginal TH350 or this TH2004R? plus as it will be a full rebuild what would be the best kit and what level of performance should i go to?
I would rebuild the th2004r, I can't imagine anything without overdrive and lock-up converters with the cost of fuel these days...........Dan _________________ I don't think I have ever had a car that was "FINISHED"........unless it was totaled.
