Ok so I bought a 1966 Elky with what I think is the original 327 engine. The car has a 2 speed powerglide and the owner assured me that it was all original. Just based on the outside of the engine I felt pretty sure that everything was complete and original. When I wiped off the grease and grime to discover the engine id I came up with this code...

T03I6HCR

I scanned a few sites about engine codes and this si what I came up with..

HCR 1966 327 275 4 powerglide, Rochester Carb

It suggests that the care came with a 4 barrel however, the car purchased had a 2 barrel Rochester. Everything else seems legitimate but next up I will try and find the intake manifold code as well as the Carb. Number?
I've already replaced the intake and carb. with edelbrock goodies but I was just wanting to get verification on the numbers just to assure myself. Also, how do I match the VIN with the engine code just to be sure that this is the original motor from the factory.
Just to be safe...the car VIN is as follows...
Chevrolet DD
136806K109801

...and the intake...
3877862
GM1

Thanks for any help!

The VIN #, 109801 should be stamped after the other # you posted. It is sometimes VERY faint but should be there. Your intake will have a date code on it in the back by the dist, that will give you an Idea of how well matched it is to your engine. If it has the oil filler in the manifold you are OK it would have to be off of a 283/327.

Yep oil filler was located on the original manifold. Feels good to buy a car from an honest person, considering just how some can be so darn misleading these days. Thanks for the help ppilotmike.
