Well I found this awesome site a couple of days ago and have been browsing ever since. Picked up a 69 E.C. 2 years ago and am in the process of a ground up. I haven't figured out how to post pics yet but if you saw it you would say why?? Yeah the exterior looked great but found out that the floor was 1/4 bondo, the frame was cracked at the front spring mount, the engine cradle had been seperated from the left side of the frame and HACKED back together and to top it all off I went all the way to Richmond Ky to get this screwin and for what I paid screwin is putting it mildly. Now a question who in this region is good to deal with for resto parts, right now I am looking for floor pans but I am being a little picky and patriotic I want U.S. stamped. Any help would be appreciated and I will get some pics up when I figure it out. _________________ As a first timer I am taking a beating on this thing but I AM going to finish my first.
Hey Ray, Welcome to the site, and to Region 2. Where you at in 2? I'm down in Fairhaven, Ma. Good bunch of guys here. Sorry to hear of the porking on the Elky, that sucks. As for 3rd gen parts, don't know of anyone in the area. Everything's pretty much mail order. You've got Ausley's Chevelle, NPD, OPGI, El Camino Store, EC Parts, etc. There's many more, but these will give you some of the info you want. Look foward to seeing pics and your progress. Hey hey Tommy, You like that pic? Oh, it was just a little something I slapped together. I've been goofing around with this program that came with the Vista. But here's the thing, it took me an hour or two to make the pic and after 4 nights and countless hours I still couldn't post it to the site. Rob-(Poltergeist) set it up for me tonight. Hey Mark I am in West Warwick R.I. Have been searching the net for my floor pans and found a place in Lyndhurst N.Y. so maybe I can go pick them up instead of paying outrageous shipping. I am going out to Indiana in the next couple of weeks to pick up a parts car and frame and I know the guy has a 70 E.C. that he is parting out so if anyone reads this and needs something from it let me know what you want and how much you are willing to pay for it and I will see if it is available and bring it back. _________________ As a first timer I am taking a beating on this thing but I AM going to finish my first.

That el Camino you bought is definitely going to be worth the effort... very nice looking --- if you want to feel better, check the Gallery to see where other guys had to start !
AND -- DITTO on Marks comment about meeting up with us at some shows -- if its drivable and got plates bring her along

Hi Ray. Welcome to ECC and to Gen-III Elky Ownership.
You're really in good shape here. Let me explain:
I have a 70 BBC and like you, live in West Warwick. Drop me a PM and we'll make arrangements to meet.
I meet regularly with 2 guys in South County, both own 68 Elkys. One has a nice red and potent 402/TH350 combo. He is also is building up a fresh rolling chassis. (PS If you're in need, he may eventually have a spare frame). The other is a 5 year long SS396 frame-off restoration, now in the final stages of completion (with lots of great stories to tell and pictures to share). It's in for paint now but should be ready for this season's show/cruise season. Like you, he retrieved his "project" from out of state. Seeing it complete will really inspire you I'm sure.
Also, there are 2 other 70 Elky "projects" that I know of in the local area that are inactive at the moment. Once they start, they'll be right where you are.
So, bottom line, you're in great company.
As for floorpans etc, check out Ground-Up Restorations at www.ss396.com. Order or download a catalogue from them. They're local (Eastern Conn.) so you'll save big on shipping costs if you're willing to drive about an hour.
Another good resource (in CA. though) is Original Parts Group at www.opgi.com. Of course, don't overlook the ECC Sponsored retailers as well.
When time allows check out www.cruisinbruce.com for many of the upcoming local car cruise nights, car shows and related events. There's plenty going on in our area that'll offer inspiration and networking for your upcoming needs.
Finally, put the last Sunday in June on your calendar. Ride with me (or follow me if you don't want to spend all day) to Diamond Hill Park in Cumberland. There, you'll see a dozen or more show quality El Caminos that'll really get you motivated to push forward on yours.

And how RUDE of me. Thanks for the greetings and encouragement MGS72ELKY and Elbandido. Unfortunately Elbandido I don't think the police will let me drive a bare frame LOL. I haven't been able to touch it for almost a year ,but I can say I have an 86 Blazer, a 98 Ford Taurus ( 41,000 miles ) and a kitchen remodel finished in that time. Believe me every time I walked by it in the garage I wanted to dive back in but priorities are priorities. Now with all that done I have all intentions of diving in head first. As I have posted earlier I have to get out to Indiana to pick up a donor(??) car and a new frame. Should be out there in a week or two. Once I get back I will decide what I am going to do either keep going with what I have or start all over only because the donor has a new bed, recent quarters and I don't know what else. _________________ As a first timer I am taking a beating on this thing but I AM going to finish my first.

I knew I've seen your El Camino before! I'm from WW, too. I've seen at least 4 in this area since I got mine about 7 months ago.

I'm excited to get this bad boy out this summer. I just slapped on a 5" Cowl and I'm getting the enitre thing repained after I get the new quarters on next month.
