I cant deciede what to do on my exhaust. I am doing 2.5" with dual aero chambers. Do I need the crossover, how much better is the x than the H and will I regret it if I dont do a crossover? _________________ NRA

There are bolt together units just like the Muffler systems, but I prefer welded systems, and any good Exhaust shop can hook you up with everything needed. But DO SHOP around, prices can very by hundreds of dollars. _________________ http://elcaminocentral.com/gallery-album_CoyoteOn2s77Cage.html

Shane in all honesty, I gotta say that by adding either an X or H pipe to a 305, your just adding to the expense of an exhaust system that is not going to be of any benefit. Installing full length headers with dual 2.5" exhaust is more than adequate for your 305...I would however recommend you use stainless steel pipes, so that the system lasts longer before having to be replaced. If in the future you decide to drop in a bigger motor that has some real guts, you could always install an H pipe then, that's pretty easy. If your gonna stick with a 305, instead of throwing money at adding an H or X pipe, consider an Edelbrock Performer set of heads and intake...yeah it'll cost a LOT more than an X or H pipe...but that's what will help your 305 breathe...those heads you have now are a choke point. All in all though, no matter what you do to a 305, don't expect a whole lot...that's not to say that you can't make a 305 perform better, but the bore and stroke of a 305 is just all wrong to turn it into a killer if that's your intent! Sooner or later your going to say to yourself..."why didn't I just go with a 350?" And if your 305 has a lot of miles on it now (I think you said 86K), you might want to consider buying/building a 350 as you can afford it and then doing the swap when that 305 finally croacks...or you just get fed up with it. I'm not trying to discourage you in any way, and only you know what your short or long term goals are for your Elky and what you can or cannot afford to do with it...just plan things out so that you get the most bang for YOUR buck!
Im really not expecting much from that 305, just trying to wake it up, thats why I dont plan anything expensive like heads. I definetly plan a 350 In the future when I aint worried about gas.
Would it really cost much more to do a x or h pipe? I would like to have it in there for the future 350. _________________ NRA

Just like the man says...not that the addition of an X or H pipe is going to add hundreds...CoyoteOn2 is talking about the entire exhaust...but adding an H or X pipe will add to the cost a bit. When you find a shop to do the system...ask them how much to do the system with the X or H pipe included...be careful there's a lot of hack muffler shops out there! Here's a link to Pypes that makes systems for G-bodys http://www.pysales.com/iwwida.pvx?;PRODUCTS_DTL?cat=X1030%20%20%20%20%20&COMP=ppe One thing to be aware of though is that although a prefab kit made for a G-body, an Elky has a longer wheelbase than all other G-body cars and a prefab kit for a G-body needs to be about 4" longer for an Elky...don't order a prefab kit for a G-body and expect it to fit your Elky...it has to specifically be for an Elky or you'll have to add in an extension on either side. Pypes has a good reputation, by the way...I'm not ready for my exhaust system yet, but it will be theirs that I use! My Elky's not only not on a back burner...it ain't even in the kitchen right now!
from what i know i beleive that el camino's can only use H pipes because the transmission gets in the way (maybe its only in the 70's elkys?) because i could not do and X because the transmission would have been in the way _________________ The Blue Beast
