Alright, I'm not sure if this is the right forum to ask this, but honestly nothing else seemed to come even remotely close... there should be a "General Help" forum
Anywho, I have a fairly significant leak in my Power Steering system on my '82 Elk. I've checked over the hoses and the connections, and they are all pretty dry. However there is always a puddle in the unit at the base of my steering column... as I understand, it is the top of the output shaft on my gear box....
I ordered the seal kit from NAPA, and am going to go pick it up tomorrow, however on the other forum where I asked this question, there seems to be a troublesome debate on how to go about replacing said seals.... So, I thought I would go somewhere that specializes in my vehicle
So, is it something simple I can do? It looks like I just undo a nut, pull it open, pull out the old seal and put it back in... but I haven't looked inside the unit as of yet.
Well, I got my parts today, and they came with a really nice diagram, and detailed instructions... Unfortunately, it's starting to look like it involves several tools I do not have... torque wrenches, special ball retaining tool, a spanner wrench.... *sigh*
Slight problem it would seem... the fancy diagram doesn't match up with the housing on my elk... uh-oh... there was $14 well spent.... here's what I'm looking at though:
there is a ridiculously easy way to replace the seals though i don't know for sure if 82's are the same....i found it here, along with more than you will ever want to know about power steering, columns, steering wheels....well, all things steering, the guy knows steering, you might have to do some digging, but, it's just about all there:

Well, I wasn't really comfortable pulling that unit apart so I brought it in to a Mechanic, good thing I did too, I had the wrong parts, and it was actually a seal on the bottom that was completely /gone/...
$81 to get that fixed, not too bad really, about two weeks worth of power-steering fluid
