These are C4 Corvette rear calipers (PBR) from Baer but should be very close to what you have, the caliper mounting braket to the axle housing is the same. Steel brake line across the rear axle connects to the flex hose running to the calipers, e brake cables connect back to the original joiner from the front e brake cable. Everything fits behind a 15' rim BUT not every rim will fit as it depends on the drop center style of the rim you are using.

oldelky80, can you get rotors and calipers and pads for your setup from an auto store, or are they special order from baer? can you give me a link to your setup?
Tom, did you ever get yours installed? what happened with that, and what MC and prop valve do you use?
where do I get these L-brackets that poltergeist, oldelky80, and others all have? _________________

The Elky project is on the back burner at the moment. I'm installing my Stealth Ram intake on my Monte Carlo at the moment. As for the "L" bracket. I would think its easy enough to make. Just measure how far you need to move the shock and bend up a piece of metal thick enough to support the weight. Of course thats if you choose to use an E-brake. I think its a good idea, but it is an option not to run it.

Back to the original question. Is the f-body rear end the same size as the g-body's? Will it fit under the elky without modifying the axle? The easy part is to set up spring perches and weld on the link system, but does it fit? Im asking because I have access to a 99 camaro rear with disc brakes and 3:42 gears for dirt cheap. _________________ Slim never dies

The rear end is no stronger than what you have in there already. I believe the only improvement is that the Camaro rear might have a 28 spline posi...8.5" G-body axles (28 spline) would work with the 7.5" rearend. It's not worth trying to fabricate this rearend to fit in your Elky...too much work with no real improvement in strength. Either go with some other type of housing that will be much stronger or rebuild your 7.5" using quality parts. Disc brakes can be fitted to your 7.5" rear if that's one of your goals. Throw your money at something else like an 8.5" 12 bolt or a Ford 9"is my best advice to you. Snatch the one out of the Camaro if it's a posi and for the disc brakes and scrap the rest if it's that dirt cheap.
Now thats what I call a direct reply. Thanks. So is there any 8.5 that already have disc brakes and posi? Im not really into retro fitting small little parts here and there to do any upgrades. Im more of a swap in and fix up the lose ends type. It seems that its to many different cars(parts) going into these brake upgrades if using used parts. _________________ Slim never dies

Just a note from somebody who owned a 4th gen F-body and still has a 95 Formula.
Rear Disc brakes were not standard on F-bodies until the 97 model year which means you need to find a V8 model for the brakes on 96 and earlier. That means Camaro:Z28, SS, or 1LE package Firebird: Formula, Trans AM, Firehawk package.
And as has been already said, the rear end is no stronger and may actually be a bit weaker. These rear ends do not have a good reputation and are considered the weakest link in the drivetrain. Of course the two-piece driveshaft isn't much more loved in the V6 models.

CLEAR! *zap*
bringing this thread back to life. lol. Tom, did you get your kit installed yet? I'm working with mine and am having a problem with the shocks. Ed mentioned the C4 rear caliper having a different ebrake design that may clear the shock absorber (the C4 caliper will fit these same mounts)
I may consider moving the backing plate so the caliper will be in front of the axle, but then I have to worry about the frame hitting the caliper... any input?
and what do I o about the hardline on the axle housing? I was hoping to swap one from a rear disc equipped blazer...

Nate;
Still trying to sort out the Monte. Have done nothing on the Elky except gather parts. With that said I have scored an 8.5 GN rear end and will go that route. I was looking at a friends Camaro the other day. He has an LT-1 car and swapped in an LS-1 rear end. The calipers were mounted to the front of the housing. Would that be an option to clear the shock mount? I know you would have to bend new brake lines. But if you swapped the brackets from side to side you may get the clearance you need. That was one of the things I was going to look in to.
