am Post subject: fuel gauge and turn signals
#1 Fuel sending unit is good, but I have no power to it. The power is supposed to come from the gauge via a regulator. Where do I find the regulator.
#2 When the turn signals are activated, they all flash. Originally, when you hit the brakes, the turn signals in front came on with them. I got that fixed, but still have the "All for one" effect."
We just rebuilt the motor and got it running, and now need to make everything work properly.
It's been a long 10 years, but finally got started.
Thanks for any help you can offer

the fuel sending unit only supplies a ground for the gauge. the "regulator" is built into the gauge.
When lights are doing stupid things it almost always comes back to the same problem - BAD GROUNDS somewhere or maybe several places. Check them all. Go over the elky inside and out and find the grounds and take them apart and clean the surfaces.
Do a search on bad grounds and there are several posts detailing where they are for the different generations. _________________ 84 Elky with 455 Buick, Tremec TKO600 5 speed, 8.5 3:42 posi -

Another 3 to 9 years should finish it.
Thanks for the reply. My son tracked down a dirty connection inside the left access panel. (rear of the bed). That fixed the gauge, after tearing the dash apart and tracking things clear back to the left rear. go figure.
I had three side marker lights that were not working, I replaced the bulbs in all four and now everything is working as they should.
This is a joint project with me and my son. My money and labor, his expertise. We both love classic bowtie's, but neither of us is what you would call a professional mechanic.
We just rebuilt the engine and had new exhaust installed. So far, the machine work and exhaust is the only things we have farmed out. Certainly not our first attempt at rebuilding an engine. This is the 5th one, over the past 20 years. All, 350 Chevy's.
Anyway. Thanks again for the advice. Happy Cruising. _________________ "73 El Camino. A True SS with all the original paperwork from GM.

The turn signal/brake light issue cam back again. after two day's of trying to figure it out, I fould that the "emergency flasher" button was part way in. I pushed it in and then pulled it all the way out and now everything is wroking great. must have hit it when installing the gauges. _________________ "73 El Camino. Yeah, I really don't like the hazard flasher switch on my '84 either -- that funny button with a collar to pull it back out. I'm sure it made sense to somebody....
