I wanted to find out what everyone thinks is the best and most effective engine degreaser on the market. Preferrably off the shelf at my local parts store.
My motor is fairly coated with oil and dirt build-up going back I don't know how far in time.
I don't mind spending extra time repeating the same steps in extra grungy/dirty areas. Just want something I can spray on and rinse off after a while.
Hope this is the right area for this question.
Thanks & Aloha,
Scott

I prefer Deisel or Keroseen ~~ Higher FLASH POINT ~~ Not as dangerous as Gas. Then the Simple Green treatment. But a word of caution ---- what ever you use, if it's flamable be carefull and don't smoke, and do it on a cool engine. Just my 2 cents worth. _________________ http://elcaminocentral.com/gallery-album_CoyoteOn2s77Cage.html

Scott, check out this post. I've used the Orange Blast method with a cheap garden sprayer with excellent results. _________________ JW - NECOA #768 2011 El Camino SS - http://elcaminocentral.com/users/a73elkyss/.

the key to any method of cleaning is that you have to work it in. most degreasers all about the same. spray in on, let is sit a few minutes, scrub it, work it in, spray some more degreaser on and continue to work it in, then rinse it off with water, and repeat as neccesary. you usually don't have to use simple green afterwords if you use a spray can degreaser

For decades now, from the commercial suppliers to body shops and detailing shops, there is a product called "Dreaded Red".
It will clean an engine compartment like nothing else!!!
However, you must begin the wash process first. You must wet and soap the fenders, cowl and any body surfaces that you done want damaged. If you don't "coat" the exterior paint surfaces, it will ruin the paint finish.
However, after hosing off, you'll have a clean engine compartment.
