I've been in three different cars that have caught fire... so yes, yes I do! And wouldn't you know it, since I've started carrying I've not needed, thank goodness! ...and knock on wood, just watch I'll be replying to this thread soon saying how I finally got a chance to use it. Poke Tounge I don't carry it right on the A pillar though, I found the wall behind the seat a great spot.

I have one in each of my cars and two in my garage. You can never have too many fire extinguishers.

I do, in every car along with a first aid kit. Consider it cheap insurance.

I always carry one in my Ford Pick up. It has a big block with a big holley carb on it. It doesn't get driven much (6mpg I can't afford too) so the big holley has a tendancy to dry out and leak a little. I had two engine fires in it before I re built the engine but fortunately none since.

I definately carry a fire extinguisher in my El Camino. Especially with the wiring being original from the factory you never know what could go wrong. Also, you never know when youre driving down the road and someone elses car may be on fire. I'd like to think others would do the same for me if I was ever in that type of situation.

By the way, BabyBlue72, Did you fabricate the attachment? I might look into doing something similar for my 66.

Better to have one and not need it than needing one and not having it. I have one in all three of my cars, each level of my house and one in the garage.

I bought it from a reputable vendor at the Pomona Swap meet and it came with the special attetchment. The extinguisher is designed to mount to the A Pillar... If I can I will try to take some pictures of it so you can see.

yes...have one in each vehicle / one in kitchen / two small & one large in garage. And while you are at it make sure you have a working smoke detector in your home.
BTW.... I am in the fire service and work for a large fire training operation.
We use dry chemical extinguishers everyday at work.
Here is a pic of one of our industrial training props......Be safe...!

For sure its just good carma to have it even though most are to small to handle much if a fire were to get a jump on you. Best fire fighting apperatus is good maintenance.
I have mine in a postion I have found to be a good one, its under the driver seat with the head just out from under the seat behind the seat. You can reach it very quickly with or with out folding the seat forward. I have mine set where it can not move at all but when you grab the head it comes right out nothing to flip or get caught. This way you do not have to drill holes in any anything but the floor or just use velcro and you don't have to look at it.

I carry one in mine too. I've already had an engine fire and didn't have one with me. Luckily the old guy at the car wash did. Seems oil fires don't go out so good with the old car wash wand!

Make sure you carry the right extinguisher too. The one that puts out a fire in your recycle bin won't do anything for a gas/oil fire.

That's a class B extinguisher, A class BC should be ok too since C handles electrical fires.

Here's a link to the classifications:

HappyFDNY Fire Extinguisher classes

ps. a pic of where mine's mounted.
