I finally got the Quadrajet OFF the V6 and replaced it with a Dualjet. Got it started this morning after messing with it for two days, by taking the meetering jets out of the QuadraJet and putting them in the DualJet. I couldnt see one iota of difference in them, but for some reason, swapping them out made it run and more importantly started without dunping fuel in the top every time.

BUT......it still runs rough INTERMITENTLY, just like the QuadraJet did. BUT..on the other hand, I havent the slightest idea how to tune the DualJet. I cannot get any change that is noticeable with the idle mixture screws. I started with screwing them in and then backing out 4 full turns. Then later I backed them out a 1/2 turn at a time till they are out 6 full turns now. Still no joy on the idle. Maybe I have a vacuum leak causing the screws to be ineffective and the overall mixture to be lean? But where? I have plugged every vacuum port on the carb that is not being used. Is there another vacuum port that is not so obvious that I am missing??

I know it is running too lean because it backfires if I suddenly put my foot in it, but the acceleration pump is working fine.

Help!!!!

What a difference 4 thousandths makes.

After getting the DualJet tuned as well as I could it still had a rough idle and poor acceleration. So I took her apart AGAIN and cleaned up the power piston with Emery cloth, modified the phenolic block so I could install the Power Piston first and the block second. and took the original "50M" metering rods from the DualJet off and put on the "46P" that were in the QuadraJet then put it back together.

It runs like a scalded cat now. Apparently I was right, it was running too lean.

Thanks to you for your link to the tune up stuff for the QuadraJet. That article gives one a good understanding how the Q-Jet and D-Jet carbs work. They are different from most other style carbs.....and a LOT simpler, once you understand them.
