OK here is the scenario. I have installed a new Delco compressor, recieverer dryer, and new orifice tube. The system has been evacuated properly down to 29 hg, where it held. System was charged and was pumping warm air like nobodys business. My reading on the low side was 86 and my reading on the high side was 95.
Compressor did not seem to be cycling regularly. In fact I let it run for about 10-15 minutes, nothing (I never heard that click that I am used to, or do the new compressors still do that) . That triangle plate on the front of the pulley has yet to move from the same position ( did not spin). Model # of my compressor is 15-20206. I am new to this does any of this info give anyone a clue to what my problem is. I am thinking in the compressor but I am not sure.
Your not getting any voltage to the compressor clutch to kick it in. Make sure it is plugged in at the compressor as well as the low pressure cutoff switch over by the receiver drier. _________________ 84 Elky with 455 Buick, Tremec TKO600 5 speed, 8.5 3:42 posi -

Tood your advice checked if plug was connected to compressor, it was. Also took a look at a cluster of swich and wire connections on the top of wheel well and all was intact (hope that is what you were speaking of).
Checked voltage on connection (cleaned it to make sure connection was goood) to compressor around 11.35-11.50 volts. Also checked voltage from rectangle switch on top of wheel well 12 volts.

I kept building off the tip you gave me, no current to compressor. I was messing around with the plug that screwed into top receiver dryer and the clutch moved in and out. I ran down to the local parts store and got a new "cycling switch", put it in and now I have air. Not as cold as I would like, but I guess that will be next weekends adventure (Ice Ice Baby).
Glad I could get you going in the right direction. If the compressor wasn't kicking on when you were charging the system you probably just need to top it off. What low side pressure are you running now? Needs to be about 30. _________________ 84 Elky with 455 Buick, Tremec TKO600 5 speed, 8.5 3:42 posi -

Just took a reading on the pressure in my a/c system. The pressure was up and down lowest reading being 28 psi and the highest about 45 psi. It is low when compressor is not cycling and high when it is. Does this sound correct or not? Last thing air is not blowing as cold as I would like. Is there any tip or trick to make system any colder that you know of?
Is this converted to R134? If so, you need to adjust your cycling switch down to about 20 psi. The R12 switch setting is 30 psi, and that will not be the same temperature as R134.
Just pull the plug off the cycling switch, and turn the screw between the prongs 1 turn CCW. See what pressure the low side cycles off at, and adjust for between 19-21 psi.

SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!! I made some adjustmests on the cycling switch as suggested and the cold breeze hit me square in the face (Yesss). I made the adjustments to get all the pressures correct, topped off with a tad bit more freon and it got even colder. Perfect
You can fiddle with the cycling pressure to get ideal cooling. I like mine set to 19 psi to minimize cycling. But, any two gauge sets can be off 2-3 psi, so as long as the evaporator is not freezing up you are good (air will stop flowing if it freezes).
