The question of how to access the screws on the outer window wheatherstrip felts (window sweeps) keeps popping up. Here is an illustration of a 5th generation door. Number 5 (Down-Travel Stop) is the part that when temporarily removed will allow the glass to be lowered enough to access the screws.
The inner felts are attached with some very tough staples. A Dremel tool using a small cutoff wheel is a very good way to cut the staples to remove them. Short aluminum pop rivets work well to attach the new inners....Doug

The illustration also shows the glass adjustment parts.....Doug

In my car -- 5th gen -- I was able to reach the screws that hold the window seal by just rolling the window all the way down after removing the interior panel. Running the glass all the way down and moving it inward with the interior panel removed were enough to get a screwdriver onto the screws.
And I used a magnetic screwdriver to avoid dropping the screws into the door.

I think you got lucky greywolf. It seems most door glass does not get low enough without removing the down-travel stop to access the screws. I know mine did not and that was with the interior panel removed.....Doug

I had to remove the glass in my '81. I had the window out while painting anyway, so it wasn't as big a deal for me. Taking the window out wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, I left the regulator in to avoid any more work than was necessary.

Heh, I just did this earlier today, and didn't see this thread...

On my driver door, I managed to finagle a screwdriver in there just by removing the inner felts and such... but the passenger was a different story, I wound up breaking off the ends of the felt, and just spinning it arround inside the door, thankfully it gripped the screw long enough for me to hack-saw it off.... I just didn't install the middle one again Poke Tounge

any tips on removing/replacing them for a 66? I did it on a 72 c20, and what a difference it makes to have some that work! but they didn't come out too straight. are there some tricks to this or do you just have to pry away? thanks in advance. AC

I got mine from Mikes Montes. The roof rail wheather strips are not equal to originals but neither is anyone elses. Link,

http://mikesmontes.com/proddetail.asp?prod=319&cat=2892

I would call him to make sure the outer window sweeps have the round chrome bead like the originals. some after-market sweeps have a somewhat flat chrome bead. Their phone no. (800) 811-5851
