Hello
I have a fuel line problem that I cant figure out.Heres the deal Im not getting any fuel to the carb I put a new pump on still know fuel to the carb I dont know if the fuel tank is plug or not I did run air trew the line with my compressor and you could hear it gerglling in the tank I put like 4 gallons of gas in the tank could it be that I need to put more fuel in the tank thats it not picking it up also has any one eles ever had this problem? I hope that I dont have to drop the tank also this is on a 78 el camino

Did the car run before you swapped pumps? You may have to prime the carb and get the engine started for the pump to draw fuel from the tank. Four gallons should be enough to get it running. But if your just cranking the motor it may be a while before the pump pulls the gas from the tank.

By all means try what tom84ss suggests first. that's easiest...if that still doesn't work inspect your fuel line for small leaks caused by corrosion...even small leaks will prevent fuel from being drawn from the tank. If the fuel line is fine, it could be a fuel pump rod problem (did you reinstall it correctly) or a fuel pump rod cam lobe (on the cam) problem. By forcing compressed air into the line at the pump end, and then hearing it bubble or gurgle in the tank doesn't mean there isn't a small leak somewhere in the line...it could be your forcing so much air into the line that it cannot all escape through the leak and the majority of the compressed air still escapes in the tank. It's a pretty simple system and should be pretty simple to fix...unless of course it's a cam problem. Let us know what you find.

Jeff told me in a PM that the engine would run for a short time priming the carb. I suggested he attach a rubber hose to the line on the carb side of the pump and run a test using the starter, 15 seconds should yield 1/2 pint of gas. Don't know the result. If he can get air bubbling in the tank using his air compressor to blow thru the line, I believe he has a fuel pump problem or the carb inlet has an obstruction (filter in backwards?).

I tryed what you said doug I took a 4 foot pice of hose hooked it up to the fuel pump and ran that into a gas can tryed to start it and it fired right up so I know its not the carb or fuel pump so I hooked the line upso that it would come from the tank cranked it for a while nothing so it has to be in the line or the tank so im going to check the line first before I droup the tank now my next question dose the fuel line run a long the drivers side? I just want to thank all of you for your help and input it means alot
