I am planning on pulling a 2004r from a '87 Monte for my '84 Elk and understand there is a mod (converter lock-up kit) that I need to perform.
I looked up BTO and saw different options so if someone could share their experience with me and the easiest & most effective route as far as what kit and how to...
I would appreciate it!
Aloha,
Scott

If you use all the parts from the Monte, the 2004R should bolt in. If you go with the 700R4 it will be a bit more work. Which one is in better shape? It's not cheap to get an OD tranny rebuilt. As for lock up kits, there are several available. Some use a simple electrical signal, others use engine vacuum to send the signal. You can search on Jeg's or Summit for different makes. You can also wire it your self with a toggle switch on the dash. But if you forget to unlock the convertor the car will stall when you come to a stop.
