Is anyone running any kind of a better breathing cold air intake on the 78-88 Elky? Is there one? I'm interested in anything not too overly expensive that I think my 84 stock 305 ci potentially breathe better,so then it might run better & get the best gas mileage possible that I can eak out of it.-Any other suggestions as well,too.... I know about the usual, ...ie...keep it tuned, check the tire pressure, etc. I even put nitrogen in the tires. Smile

Sure! Just need more money! I've already got the "machine".If you read my sig,you know I have a vette, too. Check out the slideshow-> _I have done some mods to the Elky...Belltech drop spindles,& nitro-drop shocks,& a VERY large front sway bar.

Steel is better IMO. you'll spend more to buy the fiberglass and then do all the prepwork, and paint it. It weighs less, but most do not fit right, and I've heard they shake going down the road. you also have to get specialty springs as the stock ones are too strong and will stress the glass, and eventually break it. I've seen that myself.

a few extra pounds is a small price to pay for the many benefits of steel. I got mine from Goodmark for $250 because it has a very tinjy nick on the underside from a grinder during part of their manufacturing or transport.

you could call and ask if they have any flawed hoods if that doesn't bother you, and it's a DD as mine will be.

My glass hood fits like crap.
Passenger side, front tip of hood extends up a good half inch.
Have been trying to get it to fit proper for months.
Pretty much have given up on it, as it is more a pain now then something that needs to be fixed.
Any ideas on fitment?
Have about worn the hold down bolts out adjusting the damn thing.

If you want real cold-air induction other than a hood mod you could try the the RAM-AIR kit

Ram AIR website

They have the air cleaner kits with dual snorkels that you can run down to the front bumper like the old Oldsmobile 442's and Hurst Olds had back in the 60's.

I've thought about it myself but didn't have the nerve to cut up things to make it work for my ride.

Happy

Yes, Hold Down-Hood Pins are being looked at.
Just do not want to clutter the lines of the truck, by adding them, as it would not be stock looking and stick out like a sore thumb.
But, is looking to be my only oprion.

Only other brain fart idea I have is to buy a pair of SUPER strength magnets.
See if I can mount them in some way and get that corner pulled down.
