I purchased a pair of hooker full lenght headers and a full pypes race pro system. I am now having second thoughs about putting in the headers. I am considerign just buying downpipes and connecting to my stock manifolds and saving the headers for when I get a 350.
My engine is stock 305. I dont have a lift and I am concerned about having enough height. Putting these in seems like a large project. I dont really know it its worth it or not.

I would save them for the 350, the benifit you would see in installing them on the 305 would be so minute you wouldn't notice. Save youself the time and effort and do it once on the 350.

I think Ill order the downpipes soon. Im kinda mad I spent money on the headers now but its too late and its not like they'll be wasted. _________________ NRA

Think of it this way, You now have the necessary parts for a future project.
So any time you please you can just dive right in and not worry about getting parts!

I'd put them in now and be done with it. no, you wont get a big return on the 305. But it will be one less thing to do when you do make the 350 swap. Besides, you already have the parts waiting for you.
I went for it. Right now I have the left side in and almost have the other bolted in. Its been going pretty smooth, but with two problems:
1. I had the o2 bung welded in where the sensor just barely touches the steering collum, it has now been re-welded at a slight angle to clear. hopefully. Ill see if it dose sunday.
2. oil pressure sender: I don't want to T off with the oil pressure sender up by the distributor so I think Ill try an elbo down by the filter.

Take your time, double check everything. Make sure you have plenty of clearance between the headers and anything they might come in contact with. This will include suspension parts, starter, tranny cooler lines and speedo cable. Also, the rear passenger side bolt is a major PITA with the A/C system in the dash. Its easier for me to get to that bolt from under the car.
