So I removed this piece. (Whats the name of it?) And I'm trying to sand it and paint it. I want to give it a chrome look, shiny. In the middle of the process a friend told me that the silver paint i bought wont do the job.
Here's is the link for the pictures http://photobucket.com/elcaminazo
If i can't, who knows somebody that can chrome it in south florida? Thanks!

As Ernie said it's stainless steel...if you want a chrome look polish it using a buffing wheel on a bench grinder and buffing compound. Ain't no paint made that's looks like it's really been chromed.

OPGI has a repro "lower windshield molding" for third gen's, they may have it for a fifth gen as well. I don't have that catalog, you may want to check. The third gen part is $150, getting yours rechromed may be close to that. _________________ Jim

Looking at the pictures that piece appears to be toast! You might want to start from scratch and then do the buffing thing. It is stainless and will come up rather well.

Not sure what year they went to the black trim but my 86 had this black painted trim and it was rusting so they got away from the stainless when they started painting them flat black. I now have the stainless version on my 86 and no more rust problems. _________________ 79 El Camino

My '87 has the stainless, but my '85 is painted semi-gloss black. I refinished the '85 with Krylon primer and semi-gloss black spray cans several years ago. It's holding up well.

same here my 85 has a black one it's rusted,my old 84 was stainless looked good. is it easy to remove ? also wont it make you window leak if removed and not put back right. my old el co had a window leak hated those rainy days _________________ ''EAST-LB-MINO''
Very easy to remove. 5 or 6 - 7mm head screws. Slide it a little bit to one side and get it to clear the vertical windshield molding and then slide it out from the other molding.
Has nothing to do with the seal of the glass. _________________ 84 Elky with 455 Buick, Tremec TKO600 5 speed, 8.5 3:42 posi -

so 464elky your saying it wont effect my window/make it leak if removed?
also juilan nice steering wheel look's like a nardi,nice _________________ ''EAST-LB-MINO''
That is exactly what I am saying. If someone has sealed it down you have other problems with the glass seal. It is supposed to just lay there. _________________ 84 Elky with 455 Buick, Tremec TKO600 5 speed, 8.5 3:42 posi -
