pm Post subject: FI options for a 99 Vortec
I have a 99 vortec we just finished. Been advised that the only reasonably priced fuel injection option is to go back with the 'Spider' sys. Before I do that, are there any other ideas or advice?
Thanx,

My preference would be TPI but the answer I got from the FI Specialist who is going to set it up was that options other than the 'spider' were cost prohibitive. I just bought the spyder last week from my local GM performance shop. I got this vortec from a friend but also found it to be an easy and less expensive find than an LS engine. With the machine shop friends I have, the FI system has the potential to close the LS - truck engine gap quickly. I am still very interested in options as this is a father/son project and mine may follow soon.

I cant imagine anything from the GM Performance shop being any cheaper then the aftermarket. But, the only TPI bases I know of for the Vortec heads are the Holley Stealth Ram and the Edelbrock TPI base. Both use GM sensors and injectors so wiring is fairly easy. Either of these would be a set up over the L98 350 TPI motor with a good cam and the Vortec heads. Just make sure you get a good tune and use a wideband O2 sensor if possible.

I saw an add for a new EFI set up from Edelbrock. Cant find it on their website yet. But it looks like an LT1 set up with short runners. More for higher RPM power then the stock long runner low end torque set up. anyway, they say they have them for Vortec heads as well as the standard 23 degree SBC heads.

Wow, thanx for the info. That Holley Stealth is an awesome set-up. I am sure the Edlebrock is too. I'll do some data mining to see what they have for the Vortec. Since this one is for my son, we will probably stay with the spyder injections sys. but I am taking lots of notes for mine which I hope follows quickly. If I had seen the Holley before we went back stock, I'd be chopping a hole in the hood for that 58mm vacuum to breathe. Again, I really appreciate the help. _________________ the RED one

One more thing. I have heard there is hood clearance issues with the Holley set up. It will not clear a stock hood. It may not clear the 2 1/2" Goodmark cowl hood either. I'm waiting to hear from a guy from the monte ss site if it clears his hood.

cool, and like I said I'm taking notes for mine. My son wants to stay with a stock hood so our set up will work for that. I however want a cowl hood but want to stay as low as possible ... therefore interested in hearing how your friend cleared. Good info _________________ the RED one
