Hello everybody, I need some help or input on finding a good limited slip rearend that will work in my Caballero. I just put in a new 700r4 transmission in my Cab and my rear end is killing me. I mean the rear end in my car. It's got the stock 241 gears which is too high to work with my new 700r4. From what I've found out a set of 373's or 342's would be the best gear to run. I'm ready to start my search and was wondering what other vehicles would have a rearend that would work in my Caballero. I've heard that late 90's round bodied 4WD blazer's have posi or LS rearends, possibly with the right gears, that will work and some even have disc brakes. I've also heard that the insides out of 3rd gen Camaro's rear end will work inside the stock housing on mine. Can someone please steer me in the right direction. What are my options. Thanks for any help.

If you want a whole axle housing to direct fit to your Elky, 82 to 86 Monte Carlo, Olds Cutlass, Buick Regal, or Pontiac Grand Prix will work. Ring and pinions from any 7.5 axle will work from S-10 or Camaro/Firebird will fit. I have a 3.42 ring and pinion in my garage you can have for free, and you could buy any posi unit you like.

Thanks for the reply Hans. I'd love to find the whole axle housing with 373 or 342 gears, limited slip with disc brakes all together. I could just swap the whole thing out and be done but I'm probably going to have hard time finding one. I'm probably going to end up buying a Detroit Locker limited slip unit and add my gears and forget about the disc brakes for now.
Does any of the direct bolt in's you mentioned come with disc brakes?

I'm very interested in the set of 342 gears you have Hans. I'll send you a PM on that. Thanks.

No factory "G" bodies with rear disc brakes. You'll have to adapt a set or buy aftermarket. Also, I dont believe Dtroit Lockers are made for GM "C" clip axles. But I could be wrong here.

I was afraid of that. I couldn't remember hearing of disc brake on any G bodies but hoping I might be wrong.
I was looking through my summit cataloge and saw that they have a Detroit Locker called the "Truetrac" differential. It's made for GM 10 bolt, 7.5, 28 spline. I'm not sure what spline's the El Camino's have but If I don't use a detroit locker I know somebody makes limited slip's for my G body. Thanks for the reply.

Detroit Locker, Detroit Tru Trac, and EZ Locker are all made by the same company. They are all "posi" or "limited slip" carriers. They just happen to operate a bit differently. Yes, there are a few to choose from for the G body rear ends. I believe the spline count is 26 but wont swear to it.

82-88 G-Bodies 7.5s are 26 slpine.
I have a Brand new Thorson posi unit for a series 3 carrier.
This unit is a 28 spline unit but i also have a set of 28 spline axles for a grand national. I bought this to put into my monte but found a complete rear instead. $300 plus actual shipping via UPS.
This unit was a factory upgrade in the F-Bodies. IIRC these units were almost $700 from the dealer.

It won't be hard finding that Rig. Thats a nice truck. I'd hate to have buy a set of tires for that thing. I'll be driving my blue Caballero.

That is a good deal on the carrier and axle set MC87SS has. I'm very interested in those also. I'll be shooting him a PM here shortly.

Thanks for all the help.

Sorry Glenn, but my load has been postponed due to the ship being late, getting to port. Crying Must be because of the storms in the Atlantic. Will find out Tuesday, if its a go for Wednesday. Will keep in touch with you. Got your ring and pinion on the truck floorboard for when I get there. Any chance you have a set of tailgate cables? Cool Later, Hans

Not a prob Hans. I'm in no big rush to get the gears. I've got to get the posi unit and axles first anyway and thats still going to be a couple of weeks away. I'll shoot you a PM.
