i am in no way shape or form offended .. i always forget when i start talking about these type topics that most of these guys have basically stock setups unlike myself .. thanks for the added advice .. i have more expertise in the wilder side of engines but you base timing should be between 8-10 degrees before top dead center .. depending on your cam size .
look at what everyone says on here and you will be fine .. we are all here to help each other !! _________________
464Elky---I agree with everything you said ---well except for one little thing---while you are accurate about there being no vacuum in the intake at wide open throttle you must remember that you are talking about a ported vacuum and the sheer velocity of air moving past the port creates a low pressure point there and so the vacuum advance does indeed see vacuum even at wide open throttle and as engine rpm increases it even increases due to the added air flow past the port.........Dan _________________ I don't think I have ever had a car that was "FINISHED"........unless it was totaled.
Thanks for straightening me out Dan. I was thinking as I wrote it how to avoid the straight versus ported connection business that has been discussed so many times. _________________ 84 Elky with 455 Buick, Tremec TKO600 5 speed, 8.5 3:42 posi -

Another 3 to 9 years should finish it.
Well the correct port for the vacuum advance is the one located just about the throttle plate or sometimes it even splits the home position for the throttle plate so that at idle there is little or no advance but you get a nice timing jump with even a slight tap on the throttle.
I spent a lot of time doing things wrong to get what little knowledge I have----I am glad to help a little..........Dan _________________ I don't think I have ever had a car that was "FINISHED"........unless it was totaled.
