sorry, for some reason i wanted to be a jerk and answer with no logic
You can't hook up the sub "properly" because its not a mono channel. The 4 channel is for your mids and highs and the 1 channel "mono" is for your sub.
Of you want 1 amp to power 2 mids/highs and 1 sub you need an amp like the JL Audio 500.5.
It has 4 channels for "door speakers" and 1 channel for a sub.
Cheers... I assume your in Europe somewhere... our USD is worth nothing. Spend the extra $$ and buy a nice amp off of ebay or an american site and have it shipped over to you.

No Problems El Corvino,
You take what you get when you ask questions on a forum.
Not the sensitive type either.
I understand what you are saying about a mono amp for the sub, I have another couple of amps but currently I am running a temporary set up with the splits being run from channel A left & right and a single small 10 inch sub running off left channel B
Looking to find some 4 inch speakers for the dash ( GEN 5) then the time will come to install another amp.
My rebuild is a little dodgy as I am in a rush to get it on the road and rebuild from there. (car has been off the road for 10 years).
Also, not an audiophile as this will be on the road as a work ute and anything more than an AM radio is great.
Cheers
Adam from Australia

oh... by all means you CAN hook the sub up to the 4 channel amp, but it will be trying to play the same frequencies as the door speakers. Essentially, you will have great mids and lows comming from the sub.

Hi All
Just a quick question hoping some one can clear up for me?
Can you bridge a 4 channel amp to a 3 channel to run 2 speakers and a sub?
cheers
Oz c
That can actually be accomplished quite easily with any decent amp that has built in crossovers. Just set the front 2 channels to high pass (blocks out low frequencies the fronts are not designed to play) and set the bridged sub channels to lo-pass (blocks out high frequencies the sub is not designed to play). If the amp doesn't happen to have built in crossovers (even the cheapest amps these days have built in crossovers) you can still do it with a decent headunit that has a built in crossover or by adding an external crossover. _________________ '86 El Camino SS

I'd just spend the extra 150 and buy a cheap mono amp.
Well I guess I better stop reading that ghetto stereo install handbook!

The original poster wanted to "bridge a 4 channel amp to a 3 channel" which is one of the most basic/common procedures in car audio. Based on your comment above I'm guessing you are not familiar with the fact that a "filter" (crossover) is what "sends" the designated frequencies to the appropriate speakers/sub designed to play those frequencies (the electronic filter/crossover can be in the headunit, in the amp or a separate unit in line between the headunit and amp). In the case of "splits" as "component speakers are called in some countries there is most commonly a "passive" filter after the amplifier that will send the appropriate frequencies to the mid and tweeter so you only need 2 channels to power all 4 speakers.

With the appropriate filter you can "properly" power a sub from 1 channel of a stereo amp, you can bridge a 2 channel amp or you can bridge 2 channels of a 4 channel amp as the original poster wanted to do (you will still need the appropriate filter with a "mono" sub amp and "bridging" means combining 2 channels into a single channel otherwise known as a "mono" channel)
Since I can't seem to find a link to the "ghetto stereo install handbook" I'll just have to leave you with this site ("Basic Car Audio Electronics") which has quite a bit of useful information on this as well as many other car audio subjects. http://www.bcae1.com/ _________________ '86 El Camino SS

Cheers Mr Marv / El Corvino
But I'm starting to think I'm Ghetto now, most of this install is totally out of old crap I had laying around my shed. One day i will have the funds to take it to a audio seller / installer and tell them to have the there wicked way with my machine
The board I have mounted to is an old cupboard door cover in material from my wifes sowing box the 2 amps I am not sure what they are out of now ( 2 x 4 channel ) and the Fuses and stuff were laying around from my dads and the big wire from battery is from a redundant telecoms install from work... Sub was from the last car I purchased (car now sold)
Is that Ghetto
Sounded ok with 1 amp running splits and sub so once I get the 2 amp set up running ( second 4 channel - will bridge 2 of the 4 channels channels and use for sub with you cross over set up as suggested) should be ok.
Still looking at mounting the screen in the center vents although Carputer is not going in due to new head unit having USB Video in and out blue tooth and other goodies
Old amp setup
New twin amp set up
Again cheers for your help guys.
Will post some pictures when the screen is mounted ( last screen I mounted was more ghetto than ghetto as it was mounted with blue tack...;-/ ) and when the whole thing goes into the car, which will after roadworthy and engineering as I am sure that they will have something to say about all the wires and crap
yeah I am a bit rough around the edges but as most aussie are ( John Down under please come to your own rescue here)
Cheers again Oz C _________________ 71 El Camino super charged 454 (sold)

The 220W pioneer I have in mine has the capability to bridge to a mono output for a sub. Internal crossovers are great for that. Of course I went with a small self power sub so I didn't need to mess with it.
