Im trying to get a new dash for my 85 but all i seem to find are the molded dash pads, are they the same thing as the whole dash or does it just go over the old dash?

Those covers for under $200 are just covers. They are grained like the oe vinyl hard vacuum formed covers. They fit around the glove box, vents, radio etc. They bring the surface out & are appleid with 2 sided tape.
Better than cracks I guess...
A new dash is tough to find (or afford).
ecparts.net has a NOS dk blue 1 (probably the only 1 in the US) for $1995.00.
Just dashes.com is the probably the most logical option.
They take your dash & reconstruct it with new foam & vacuum formed vinyl.
Show quality stuff & they run I think $1095 plus shipping.
Still not cheap, but aren't these the Cadillacs of cars or something? _________________ Have Fun! Bob

There are companies out there who can restore an original dash. But I dont think they are cheap. I think Mike's Montes had some rerurbished stock dashes in the $800.00 range. I may be wrong on the price. It's been a while since I saw it.

I had a '76 Monte dash done at an upholstery shop some time ago.
It looked great until summer, then it looked like a chick (no offense girls) with VPL!
I did that car for resale & threw in a dash mat. The buyer wasn't as picky as I was....
I called dashes plus last week & got a price for my wife's '86 & it was $1095.00.
I think most resellers buy from them.
If I'm wrong & there's another option, please let me know! _________________ Have Fun! Bob

I here and see a lot of guys doing fiberglass repair on older dashes .Mine has some cracks in it so i think i'm going to give that a try first. Figure i can always find another crached one to send off if thats what it comes to . There are a few i have seen done with water transfer that looked really good and just happed to have a neighbor that does that so i figure if i can get it smooth enough with glass he can dip it for me . What the heck its worth a try and will only cost me time "mostly". _________________ AMERICAN MUSCLE KICKIN BUT SINCE DAY 1 !!! 1988 IROC Z 388 TUNEDPORT 1986 SS ELKY GRAND NATIONAL LT1

Can you explain what "water transfer" is? I've never heard of this. I'm sure there are plenty here that would like to know what the process involves. _________________ My "Hell Camino" Homepage
