I am looking for the tailgate top trim piece, does not have to be perfect but does need to be straight. I plan on running a spray in bed liner up and over all the rails around the bed of a 74 and I am missing this piece.

Cool Just take your place at the end of the line Chris! Laugh
One of the most sought after pieces for a Gen4 Elky! They bring big prices on ebay for a good one! Mine is beat all to heck. I think mayhem had the right idea when he shaved his! Cool

So I am finding out, most everthing for 4th gens is hard to find. I didn't realise when I took this project on for my mother that I would be in for such a hard time just to put it back together...

Yeah, I had mine straightened when I had all my chrome trim straightened and polished. Had a couple of nasty welts in it.

It's ironic that the highest production generation of Elkys has the worst parts availability. Your best bet is a salvage yard or Ebay/craigslist. I haven't heard anyone doing repops on these yet.

Another one that pops up on Ebay now and again is the tailgate hinge covers. I spent almost 10 years before I found a good set.

If I had any metalworking skills I'd have shaved or filled in the moldings.

Happy

Hi Chris. I sold my '73 Elco SS and have some left over parts and I'm now getting around to cleaning them out. I do have a top tailgate piece. It is driver quality, has some dings and scrapes, but does fit fine and uses all the original screw holes. These trim pieces were kind of thin metal to begin with and most people back then used their Elco's as trucks, so they did get beat up a bit. I had this piece on my Elco for quite a while before finding a NOS part to replace it.

Click here for some pictures of the top tailgate trim. I'm looking for $55.00 plus shipping for it.

I also have some used driver quality '73 bed corners, if you need them. I have other miscellaneous parts to clean out. Let me know what else you might be looking for and I can see if I have it. I don't have much, kind of like a few boxes to take to a swap meet type.

Please send an email if interested to jlevitan@holycross.edu with the subject of "El Camino Parts" or something like that to get by the spam filters.

By the way. Thank you for your service to our country. It is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Jay

Jay,

Thank you for the post, I sent you an email. I am interested.

I need most everything for the interior
Weatherstrip
Seats(Mom wants buckets)
Center console
Dash is very bad
Door panels are horrible
Side marker lenses are very fadded
Washer and overflow bottle are bad(I may just find aftermarket stuff since I am trying to simplify the engine bay anyway)
I am sure there is more, but I am not all the way into it yet.

What parts do you have?

Hi Chris,
I sent you an email with the parts list I have. I don't have to much that is on your list but I do have this black carpet dash mat. Might be an idea to cover up your dash until you find or repair the actual dash. Just a thought.

I'll be in touch tonight via email with the shipping price.

Thanks,

Jay

Chris, if Jay can't help you with some stuff, drop me a pm if you like, I might have some parts you need.

I know there's a decent set of black door panels in the back. Not so good tailgate trim piece. I believe a bud of mine has a center console and floor shift. I might have a washer bottle (I pulled it for someone else and they never got back with me.) I've four parts cars (4th gen), and not one dash is worth messing with IMO. You may consider a dash cover, they look decent when installed.

I noticed these buckets for sale on the board here - http://elcaminocentral.com/ftopict-26463.html

shoot me a list if you need something. i know i have 2 tailgates with top moldings. there's a lot of good stuff left like a washer fluid bottle. just don't ask for material interior unless you want to re-cover a set of split optional seats, original ss dash, etc. even have the original jack and tire cover.

where in montana are you? Missoula auto salvage had several el caminos, but crushed everything in their yard last spring. kellys has a few mid 70s, but i didnt ask about any chrome trim, and there is a yard near anaconda and one up in kalispell that may have some old stuff left. Mad
with the high price of steel this year, most of the yards i know about sold out and scaped everything. cant really blame them, when the price was as high as it was.

I am in Great Falls, and I have found a couple of cars here to look at, not much on them that I have needed, but the internet has been helpful. I have been waiting for a member on here that says they have some parts for me...
