I already had them installed so I don't know how much good it will do. I like in CA and from what I know is that they are only illegal if they are open, but they are not illegal to have them. Can anyone help with this, just so I know how careful I have to be. _________________ The Blue Beast
I doubt they can give you a ticket for having cut-outs installed, but you'll definately get one for driving with an open exhaust. _________________

They are illegal in the state of Ohio. But, yes they have to catch you with them. And then, many cops wouldn't even know what they are. Not saying cops are dump, just the younger ones have likely never come across them.

What you will find if you research is that any modification to the exhaust beyond factory specifications is illegal.
Every state has laws on the books to cover this going back to the 50's.
They were written to combat the big bad hot rodders of the era and have been enforced and equally unenforced ever since, depending on the purpose in mind by local law enforcement.
Around here enforcement died out through the early to mid 60's then reemerged in the late 60's to late 70's then died out mostly through the 80's. Then the sport compact era came along with their fart can exhaust and it reappeared again! But even that is dying out and loud exhast is mainly used as a reasonable cause to stop you for a closer look. All at the will of the officer. _________________ "Still Just Truck'in"

Boy I'd LOVE to have a pair of cut-offs like those!!!!! Especially what is IN them!
I think that iff you put the cut-offs on right, like these new electronic open/close with a switch, you won't get in trouble unless you have them wide open.
That would be so cool to have them open tearin up the street, and then with the flick of a switch close them while you are being pulled over!! LOL _________________ Douglas

Another thing to consider is that people may protest.
What I want to know is why we are rousted by the law for loud exhaust but Hardly Ablesons are not bothered when running without mufflers. _________________ Jim

That's not true. I know from experience that the Police in plenty of areas will ticket a Harley (or any bike) for "excessive exhaust noise". Most riders are know how to manipulate the throttle to only unleash the excessive noise when they want. It's easier to keep an 800 lb motorcycle with 2 cylinders quiet, than it is to keep a 3500 lb car with 8 cylinders. _________________
