Does anbody know what could be causing a brake pedal to not come up all the way? I come to a stop and when I take off my brake only comes about half-way up, so I have to use my left foot to pull it the rest of the way, does anyone know how to fix this? _________________ -Andrew, 1974 El Camino, finally a 350!
A '74 would likely have power brakes. Power brakes I believe don't use a return spring, just one manual brakes.
Take a look at the brake light switch. Also look for something under the dash interfering with the pedal. If you see no problems, remove the brake light switch and pull the pin at the pedal and booster push rod pivot. Make sure the pedal can then be moved freely. If no problem is seen here you likely have a problem internal with the booster. Now, some GM's had a external pivot link at the booster. I don't know if you have this but if you do it could be seizing up. You would need to remove the booster to examine this.

Still having this problem, dont have anyone here to help me with it so I was wondering could the problem also be that there might be air in the lines and the brakes need to be bled?( I know your thinkin why not just bleed the brakes, but no one at my house wants to participate) I just thought of this because I noticed when I press my brakes they dont start working until I press them under a little quarter way down. May be air in lines. Also one haft of the brake system could be out. This could be a bad master cylinder. You would loose no fluid.
Get some friends to help you, may be free beer and hot dogs will help.
