Anything for sale will only go for as much as the market will bear. I'd caution anyone thinking they'll get 30K for a 78SS after putting 45K into it though.

My guess is that this dealer sells mostly to overseas clients who are nuts for american iron. I can just imagine a 4th gen trying to squeeze down some of those narrow italian streets.

This guy has been around for awhile and if what he was getting was truly affecting values there wouldn't be so many great deals on El Camino's out there.

Happy

If the guy who sold his rebuilt '87 on eBay (Tuggy's link) for $13,110. with the $14,000 paint and stripe job, that's the seller's problem.

Bethany Kars is in business to make a profit. Profit is not a dirty word. Just because A business makes a profit does not mean they are ripping people off. The wife and I own a small business with around 14 employees and we are not in business just to employ people, we make a serious profit for our services and our customers do not complain. We must be doing something right, because we have being doing it for 34 years.

Bethany Kars sells serious El Caminos for serious money. And at that I would bet he's not getting rich doing it. After he reconditions or restores a vehicle, he probably has quite an investment in it.

I paid $18,000 for a 18,100-mile '87 Elky and drove it home 1600 miles earlier this year. The guy I bought from bought it from a widow and he probably made a good profit and I don't care, he got what he wanted and I got what I wanted. This most likely will be my last daily driver and I wanted it be an another El Camino. Smile

They can just carry my casket in the back, no need for a hearse. Cool

Doug

Personally, I wouldn't post a judgement on somebody without having any direct experience with them. To abolish somebody or something without directly resolving the experience would be stupid. I purchased my 69' Elky from a Kasas auto dealer who I would have no problem dealing with again in the future. I found it on an eBay auction going for about $2700.00. I played the bidding game up to $3200.00 and stood fast. I was out bidded by someone who couldn't come up with the funds for there transactions. I was contacted by the eBay team and Charles from Pride Auto Plaza and was still interested in the car for what I bidded. I sent $500.00 to Charles and set up a date to check out the Elky. Alot of my friends said I was nuts for doing it. I got a one way rental car from Milwaukee, Wi and drove down to Derby KS to check the car out. It was exactly as it was posted. No disapointments here. After a decent test drive, I turned the rental in paid the balance on the Elky and off we went, back to the Badger. I've been very happy with the sells experience and even did stop by Bethany on the way back to check out other Elky's I noticed on the ride down. Bottom line is you really can not comment or past judgement on somebody without having some experience with them!!

Tuggy, I've been trying hard to hold my tongue here, but you comment on just about every subject on this site with an obvious lack of experience. Exactly how many cars have you bought from Bethany's? None? Then how do you know they're a rip off? Some folks have no problem paying a premium to get the best for they're dollar, cars or otherwise. Tell me Tuggy, I just ordered the most expensive ignition parts for my Elk, did I get ripped off? You go around advising people what engines they should buy, then in another thread you ask what carb numbers mean (CFMs). Not trying to attack you, but give us a break man.

Ok you got me I never bought a El Camino from Bethany. I was just trying to say that they over price there El Camino and you can get as nice or nicer cheaper if you look. Also wanted to thanks you for being a smartass and telling me I am stupid without implying it.

Alright Tuggy, Your missing my point, I was not "implying" you were stupid, I even mentioned I wasn't trying to attack you. My point is it is totally unfair of you to bash any company or individual without it being based on personal experience. That's called slander and defamation of character. If it's based on personal experience with a company or person, then that's fine and could save someone some grief. You do this all the time on this site, an example, recently a guy was trying to sell his Elk in 'Garage Sales', you chime in that it's too expensive. Now if you weren't in negociations with that guy, why slam him and his Elk and maybe hurt his chances of selling it? Why say anything at all? Do you realize that if the owner of Bethany Cars read your post he could sue you? I didn't speak up to defend Bethany, I've never bought a car from them and know nothing about them. My point was you should think before bashing. So no, I wasn't implying you were stupid, if I were, I wouldn't have implied it at all.

I think we're taking the whole libel thing a bit far. This is a discussion forum and opinions are free and open. Good luck suing anybody for anything said on a forum. That's just the way it is.

Now go out and pay for an internet marketing campaign that specifically slams this car dealer and he's got grounds to take your lunch in court.
The difference primarily centers around the difference between having a discussion and making a false public statement specifically intent on creating harm.

For example, I can say, "Toyota's are ugly egg-shaped rattletraps that don't get any better mileage than a Chevy" With impunity because that's just an opinion.

But If I place a full page ad in the local paper that says that, "Owning a Toyota will give you cancer and cause you to have ugly kids because they all emit Toyotazene gas" I can expect the lawyers on my doorstep rather quickly.

The difference has more to do with the audience intended than what is being said.

The nice thing about forums is that any unsubstantiated statement will be dealt with rather severly in quick fashion.

Well Jim, I'll tell you this. When I had my company if anyone who had never even done business with me got on a national forum and pegged my outfit a "rip-off", I'd a had them in court in a heartbeat. But that wasn't my point anyhow, I was mearly pointing out to a young member that it just ain't cool to bash someone you've never even done business with, company or individual. That's it, plain and simple, no arguments, no stress. Get it?

I'm done with this thread....
