I am trying to remove knobs :wiper/ head light/ ignition so I can remove instrument panel from my 68 El Camino. Does anyone know if it requires a special tool?
Thanks

Hope you haven't broken it, since no one has replied yet.
I broke the first one I had trying to get it out, but I was a teenager then and of course knew more than anyone else did! Some lessons are learned the hard way!
This was a long time ago on my first 69 Camaro. I got it right on the second and subsequent ones. As I remember, there is a little button with a spring that is on the control behind the dash. You push it in and the knob pulls all the way out. Then you unscrew the nut on the front side of th edash and it all comes out easy.
Once it is out, you can see the groove and how the button and spring hold it in. The button is the size of a small nail head and you should be able to see it with a flashlight (and a wrenched neck).
From the school of hard knocks...

Oh - why did I ever sell the 69 Z/28 RS?
or the 71 454 Chevelle?
or the 69 Chevelle?
or the 70 Nova?
etc... _________________ http://madsterz.com/Gallery1/cars?page=1
I haven't broken it yet ( too hot in Texas to do much to it) I know the head light switch removes that way are you saying the windshield wiper switch does also?
And thanks very much for responding

The wiper knob has a small screw that you can see from the side.
Pull the headlight switch all the way out and turn all the way counter-clockwise - press the button referred to above while pulling the knob out.
Ignition you will need the key. Turn to the accessory position and insert a paper clip into the small hole (You will have to push a little to push the release pin in) while continuing to turn CCW while pulling the key toward you lightly. _________________ 84 Elky with 455 Buick, Tremec TKO600 5 speed, 8.5 3:42 posi -
