I have a 1985 4.3l with a throttle body. It use to start right up..just resently it got harder. Now, at long idles it will die. At take off I have to feather it to keep running and start rolling. I have to keep feathering till speed of 25- 30 mph. If I need to "get up and go" it stalls, than once I start getting off the eccelator, slowly, it will come back. I have to hold it in the "sweet" spot a few seconds than ease back into it. I changed ALL filters...and it has no miss....Its not a hot rod...just my TRUCK...Can anybody point me in the right direction? Before I start just replacing unneccesary parts
You might try cleaning the throttle body with a spray can of throttle body cleaner. Also you probably should do a fuel pump delivery test to see if your fuel pump is putting out enough fuel.

Okay sorry...I'm new to this site..hot rod and elky ARE the same...I'm still tring to convence everyone I know IT IS A 1/2 TON TRUCK NOT A CAR!!!! Tried the cleaner not the fuel pump delivery test. What are the specs on that? I'm a diesel mechanic but gas engines tend to play mind games with me.
1. Turn engine off and relieve fuel pressure.
2. remove air cleaner and plug Thermac vacuum port on TBI
3. Remove flexible fuel line between fuel tank and filter (near tank).
4. Install fuel pressure gage. A 9 to 15 psi gage should be used.
5. Start engine and observe fuel pressure reading, It should be between
9-13 psi.
6. Relieve fuel pressure
7. Remove fuel pressure gage.
8. Reinstall fuel line.
9. Start engine and check for fuel leaks.
10. Remove plug covering Thermac vacuum port on TBI and install air
cleaner.
This is according to my 1985 Shop manual

NAILED IT!!!! Took me a little bit to getting around to fix it, but that is what the problem was. Actually, the rubber hose that went from the stainless tube to the pump had worn out. But I went ahead and installed new pump. I didn't want to have to do it again anytime soon.
