Well guys I got my first real look at the underside of my 69' Elky this weekend. I made it home off the road to find a nice big redish oil spot under my baby. Pops noticed it leaking about a week ago. I got some Simple Green and a couple rolls of papertowel from Walmart, drove her up on the car stands and went to work on scrubing her down. I don't want to push that Simple Green stuff, but that stuff really works great in a sray bottle with a little water. It cleaned up really good. Didn't even need the wire brush. Got everything down to the bear metal and peeling paint. Was able to find the leaking power steering hose almost right away. Was able to give her a grease job while I was under there. All the bushings are shot. I could see one of the front shocks leaking. The bushings and shocks will wait for this winter. I got some hose from Car Quest and we back up and running. That is after I drained the DOT 3 brake fluid out of the power steering pump, and replaced it with some auto tranny fluid.
OOOppps.
I used simple green for years and it is great, but if you think its clean take some Grease lightening straight and see if your really clean . If you are all clean with a simple green wash and no wire brush thats one good car and you are hired for my next rebuild and clean job.
There is one other product that is great Marine Clean Degreaser by POR 15, its used as the final clean byfore metal etching the metal before paint.
Good luck with your new baby and remember there is only one ear Elky and 69 is it. _________________ "69" SS 396/350 HP with a stock outside, stock underside, stock inside and a splash of chrome and polish in the engine area.
