My '79 door panels are showing their age and I would like to replace them or recovered (but will need armrests) with something that is well made and looks nice. doesn't have to be original and can have a custom look. So what would you guys suggest?
Cool

It really depends on what you want. A good custom upholstery shop can build you a set of custom panels but they will probably not be cheap. I am building a set of custom panels for my 83 and doing away with the two piece design of the panel and I am adding some speaker pods and a custom arm rest, but by the time I buy the custom door handles and such I would probably get about $500 for this set of panels out the door of my shop. If it is just a daily driver you want to look nice I would find a set of originals either salvage or new. I believe they are available from either honest charleys or ECparts.com.

Thanx Steve,
This car is gong to be a daily driver and worse. My son (who was involved in the build) is probably going to take it off to college. Soooo ,,,, custom panels might not happen, but not ruling it out either as there are only minor details left on a full build. One thing that got my ears up is the pods in the doors. We both want these 6" speakers (already purchased0 up front, but are struggling with where to put them. Send me a PM or give me a link to some more details on your work. If he takes this one, I most likely will start my own, Good info .... so many thanx Cool

For standard interior door panels 4X6 or 4X10 inch speakers will fit. I don't think 4X10 speakers will fit with power windows, The power window motor is in the way. Either speakers should have somewhat shallow magnet depths. This is how I installed speakers in my '85 and '87 Elkies.
