The 305 is no powerhouse but it reliable and can get decent mileage. It is likely the engine that the Elky came with. So to answer your question yes that is a good combination. You will not win any drag races.

I have my original 305 and a 2004-R but I have a 308 rear. That keeps the RPMs down on highway trips.

should be fine. 3.73 is about as high as Id see being practical for today's gas prices. the 200-4r is a good trans though.

lol - I keep telling people I am going to make my high HP elky with some 2.XX gears and just keep it for highway racing. Poke Tounge

I FORGOT TO MENTION MY 85 HAS A 12 BOLT POSI @ 373 GEARS, WITH A 305 CRATE ENGINE , IS ALL THAT A GOOD COMBO?

its' all stock with a preformence coil & k&n filter ,nothing special ,but pass's smog here in cali. i just got it . im going to but 20 inch rocks sometime its got 15'' eagle alloys now
