we put a full dash cover in the 85 and it turned out BEAUTIFUL

perfect

well worth the $$

dont evne have any idea its covered by a new dash either once its all installed and everything

ill get pics eventually
we didnt know what we were gonna do about the cracked dash either

it was the first time i ever saw or put in a dash cover like this

Yes, recommendations are good. I also have a few more specific questions about the fit. On the aftermarket dashpads:

1st i noticed by the brake release looks just like a square cut out-how does the seam look since it does not sit back in the release pocket?

2nd, under the radio, the dash pads appear not to fully wrap under it where the ash tray goes? any feed back on that?

3rd and last about the speakers? do you HAVE to cut them out and put your old grilles on them? Do they come pre cut? is there a template to guide cut out? (couldnt be that hard, but just for sake of asking) and if you cut them out, do the grilles sit pretty flush?

again thanks to everyone, I found 4 sellers on ebay, all appeared to be the same product, 3 of them came in only black, 1 offered color match for an extra 17$. prices ranged from 100 shipped to 160ish shipped. I can post the sellers/link if anyone is interested. I just pulled my dash and am gettin ready to either buy the pad or cover it.

I've had a dash cap on my 4th gen for about 8 years now. It definitely made it look better but it did develop it's own crack near the defroster vents.

Mine fully covered my dash pad and I paid about 100.00 for it at the time. It came in Dark Blue that matched my interior too.

As far as fit around openings. I have the model that has the opening for the center AC vents. The fit is good but there is still a visible area of the original dash around the vent openings. Roughly about a 1/4 inch reveal around the outside edges. The cap doesn't completely wrap into the opening. Also it did't quite go to the bottom of the pad leaving an exposed area that I had to cover with thin auto carpeting to hide sine the bottom of my dash pad near the speedometer was a bit chewed up.

I can't really complain though as my dash was literally turning to dust and there wasn't much left of it. I really need to get it redone but the cap is a nice stopgap.

I know it's not the same but I'd have to assume that with so many dash caps being produced these days that there is going to be some "universal" characteristics to this kind of product no matter what it goes on.

On the subject of the center speaker, I bought a Jensen speaker, I think from the El Camino Store, that is a pair of speakers in one frame like the original mono speaker that came in my 1980 El Camino. I believe it is a midrange and tweeter times two. It was a bear to get in from the top of the dash (I didn't do alot of under dash stuff at the time). I use a pair of boxed speakers that sit on the floor behind my bench seat and a pair of tweeters mounted in the rear side panels. The radio is a digital replacement made to look like the original radio. With it's fade, bass, and treble controls, all the speakers work together and sound great. The boxed speakers in the rear are on quick disconnects so they can be removed completely or extended to put on the roof or in the bed for some outdoor music.

I would be cautious about cutting holes in either corner of the dash and hence the dash cover. Lots of stuff underneath and completely unable to undo. Hope this helps.
