Finally! my first real post, that's not an introduction! lol. i've been using that search option, and every single time i've found info on what i need! too helpful! anyways, i finally found something search didnt... here's my spill & questions...
I'm not real sure what Chevy engineers had on their mind when they designed this, but it's quiet odd they'd do this....
I'm 6'2" and when i stopped and got gas for this thing, I couldn't believe what i had to do. Traditionally hinge is at the front, but i suppose if the body style isn't distinct enough, the gas cap door would give it away eh?
but i do have a question about this it's not just a complaint, has anyone ever switched the hinge to the front of the hole? and secondly, is the Air Bag Suspension filler location normal? or is that aftermarket? I'm suspecting aftermarket but while i have your attention i figured I'd ask! hehe.
Thanks for input in advance! _________________

Hinging the gas door from the front or back would be hard to do because of the curve of the body. It would hit the edge and chip the paint when you opened the gas door, unless you use a narrow hinge, which would be very unstable, weak and easy to break. I guess if you really wanted to you could figure some way to rig it up. You would have to find a hinge that would bring the door out and away from from the body. Unless you are just wanting to be different it's probably more trouble than it's worth.

I'm 6'-1 and have the same problem have to basically crouch down a little to get at the fill tube properly. I know a lot of newer cars have curved bodies and just have the slide type mechanisms for them to open. Would be worth a trip to a junkyard to look at how some of the newer cars have it installed and maybe scavenge one. But I have to admit it would probably be more trouble than it was worth. Eventually you get used to it and kinda open it from the side. _________________ 86 elk being restored
