but even our best guess may not be accurate. the best way is to completely fill the tank, and record the odometer reading. drive around until you need to refill, and top it off again. however much gas it takes to top it off is how many gallons you used.
record your new odometer reading and subtract the last reading from that number to get ditance traveled since your last fill up. (you can use the trip meter instead, if you have one)
divide miles traveled by how many gallond of gas you used to get your MPG. _________________

If an El Camino Leaves the gas station with a full tank at eleven oclock. Travels west at fifty miles per hour with two people and a dog. They stop for lunch at twelve for fourty five minutes. NO WAIT, that was a train, wasent it? I bet Mike got all those train questions right in school. _________________ Jim

If I had to guess what the original window sticker said back when your 83 was new. I'd guess that with a V6 you'd see 18MPG and with a V8 it would say 14 Highway.
Of course I've always been able to beat the MPG stickers.
Just a guess though.
That all assumed a brand new car too.
....You mileage may vary...
hee hee...

the MPG of a Camino, you mean GPM (Gallons Per Mile) right?
best way is what 1badElky said, but you can probably take a stab in the dark somewhere from 8-14mpg, but it could very drastically depending on what you have under the hood n' so fourth. _________________

My dads 86 with a 350 truck motor that he had put in when the 305 died and the original 700r4 tranny and an accurate speedo. was getting 26 highway when he gave it to me. I don't get that because my foot is much heavier. That was also with the rears on the stock rochester Qjet sealed shut with carbon because he never stomped on it. So essentially he was running it with a 2 barrel carb. I've gotten low 20's on the highway with it since I've had it though, well and cleaned the carb out so the rears will open. But to answer the first posters question, I don't believe the year he's talking about offered an overdrive tranny so unless its had one added it wouldn't get more than 18 on a good day.

The othere day I traveld 40 freeway miles to do some side work. I filled up befor I left and when I got there filled up again it took 5 gallons. I got a stock 68 327 2bbl powerglide and got 8 mpg at 60 mph thats 15 bucks one way my rpms are around 4500 plus is my guess. i cant wait to drop a tranny with a OD. I hope to see thous numbers double when i drop a new tranny in it. _________________
