I am have a problem with reception. I searched that topic in this forum and I see that the ground on the antenna is of paramount importance. I also see a number of solutions such as the hidden antenna which did not work in my 80 Elkie with the antenna in the windshield and XM radio which I don't want.
My question is this, what is at the other end of the wire that plugs into the antenna socket on my brand new radio? What connects the two leads from the windshield to the antenna plug in? Does it corrode or go bad, does it get loose? _________________ I didn't touch it. I swear.
If you remove the long stainless trim at the bottom of the windshield you'll see the connection point for the windshield antenna. There is a small bulkhead style coaxial connector mounted under the trim that the windshield antenna plugs into. It is very prone to corrosion. _________________ Ernie

I did as you suggested and sure enough it was there. It was corroded. I sprayed it with penetrating lube. My question is about the bare lead that comes off the windshield to the rca type plug. Should it be bare wire twisted? Seems like it should be insulated. I can stick a piece of silicone tubing over it. What do you think? _________________ I didn't touch it. I swear.
It's been a while since I've had a windshield antenna so I don't recall what the windshield wire looks like. I don't think any type of insulation will make a difference. Remember, it's just a piece of wire. _________________ Ernie
