Just got my latest Hagerty magazine and they had an article called, "More than an oil change" Which goes over the drop in ZDDP levels from 1200PPM to 800PPM because they somehow tied increased phosphorous levels to decreased catalytic converter life. Higher levels of ZDDP protect cam surfaces from wear on Overhead valve engines.

Whatever..

The short of it is that there are still oils that have 1200PPM or more of ZDDP protection available. Here's some brands they mentioned in the article.

Valvoline VR1 Racing oil (up to 1300PPM)
Castrol's Full Synthetic 20W/50 (1200PPM-check rear label for "Recommended for Classic Cars")
Red Line Motor Oils (Synthetics 1200PPM Phosphorous and 1300PPM Zinc)
Brad Penn Penn Grade 1 Racing Oil (bradpennracing.com) (1500PPM ZDDP)
Classic Car Motor Oil (classiccarmotoroil.com) (1500-1600PPM ZDDP)

It also mentioned the ZDDP additives:
ZDDPLUS (zddplus.com)
CamShield (camshield.com)
and of course GM's EOS (PN:10522367)(newgmpartsusa.com)

So there ya go. It's more than just the SM mark on the bottle now.

Happy

Would like to add { Shell Rotella T 15-40w} . Diesel engines seem to be able to use the higher additives...
