I just bought a pair of gabriel air shocks for my rear in my 1983 caballero. I won't run into any difficulty backing up onto my rhino ramps will I?

If you're looking to back onto a set of ramps to get the rear in the air to make it easier to replace the shocks - I don't see why you would have any problems.

Best of Luck..Tim

I haven't replaced rear shocks before so I'm not positive on this, but I would assume that you would need the car off of it's suspension, letting the axle hang free. Trying to remove any suspension components while the car is still sitting on it's suspension could lead to very serious injury or death if it drops down on you. I would ditch the ramps and go with jack stands under the frame to be safe.

NEGATIVE!!!

The rear doesn't need to hang free!!!

That will most likely make getting the old shock off harder, and could let the rear drop to the suspensions limit when the shock is removed.

I like to put the frame onto jack stands(one on each side)and raise or lower the rear as needed with a jack under the center of the rear to remove and install/replace the shocks, one side at a time, but hey, that's just me.

If you are replacing an old set of air shocks that still hold pressure let the air out first. They will probably come off with the elky sitting at ride height, as would any old worn out shock. A gas charged shock usually comes with a band around them to collapse them so they can be installed without letting the rear all the way down/fully extended. I don't think the air shocks are gas charged so you may be able to set the extension/length by hand to fit them back on.

My tools apparently are too weak to even take off the nuts on there. Grrr I need a real set of tools to do anything.

You won't have any trouble sliding those on, you'll be able to set the length on them to get them on.

Gotta have the right tools though!!!

James, You are absolutly correct, I should have been more discriptive and mentioned useing a Floor Jack under the Axle tube / Diff. to remove the weight of the Rear-End from compleatley hanging the rear. (Heck if that was done, the rear end would hang beyond the limit of the shocks.) Great CATCH on that one!!!
