Today I picked up the rear bumper from my 87 that I had rechromed by Nu-Chrome. I dropped it off there on June 14th. They said that since it was is such good shape and needed no restoration work it would be done within five weeks. It actually took them twelve weeks.
After the fifth week I started calling them to get an estimated completion date. If I called the main number all I got was voice mail, which never got returned. When I did actually speak to Scott (the owners son) he promised to call me back later in the day with the status. But, he never did. I called back the next day and all I got from him was lip service. He said next week it will be done. Yeah, right.
I had the cell phone number of the sales manager Jack Baker so I started bugging him about my bumper. He's a salesman so he doesn't have much influence on their production schedule but he did track down my bumper. He called me back to tell me when he thought it would be finished.
A big problem with Nu-Chrome is that they seem to tell everyone that their parts will be done in five weeks regardless of what needs to be done or what their work load is. This seems to be because of the philosophy of the owner. Tell them what they want to hear, get the job and the deposit, and then don't deliver on their completion date estimate.
So, after twelve weeks I went there today to pick it up. It did look great. It was so much better than the rear bumper I got from Bumper Boyz. Jack had it ready for my inspection when I arrived. I gave it a thorough inspection before I paid my balance. He then gave me a tour of their facility and I saw some of the works in progress. They do some pretty extensive (and expensive) restoration work on very old car parts.
As far as quality of work, I'll give them an A+. For customer relations they get a D-. For keeping their promises of delivery dates they fail miserably.
I know Jay (a73elkyss) had them do some work a while back too. What's your feelings Jay?
