I have a 1980 Elkie that had a black spray in bed liner that was in dismal shape. After I had my Elkie painted two tone white on top, silver on the bottom, I purchased the Herculiner roll/brush on kit. I first emailed the company and asked if their product worked over an old existing bed. They answered the next day and said yes, just follow the directions. I ordered the light gray kit and it came out fantastic. Every imperfection was hidden. Drying time was fantastic. Great lustre and the color looks great. I highly recommend it. _________________ I didn't touch it. I swear.

Welcome, Bob. Just a few questions as I am interested in using the product. Where do you get it? How did you apply it? Can you post a picture of it? BTW where in 7 are you located? I am in NW GA. _________________ Jim

First, I used superglue to fix any divots in the existing bed. Then I used my leaf blower and blew it out. Then, using rubber gloves and working outdoors, I put Naptha in a coffee can and scrubbed down the entire bed. Assuming you had an existing bed, work quickly and keep the rag wet but don't make puddles. It will melt the existing bed but when it evaporates, the bed will be ok. Once the Naptha evaporates, you take the scrubbing pad from the kit and rough up the entire bed. Of course you use painting tape to mask off the top of the bed and tailgate etc. Once all this is done, you use the included brush to do the corners and anyplace the roller won't go. Kind of like edging out a room before using the roller. Then you use the included roller and roll out the coating. You must use a paint paddle on your drill to stir up the rubber particles and you must do it often. Keep the can closed when not in use. It evaporates quickly. It said to wait a couple hours until it dries for the second coat but I was ready in about 30. Repeat the brush and roller to put on a second coat and you are done. You have to put the first coat on within 24 hours of the Naptha cleaning and the second coat within 24 hours as well.
I called my local CarQuest Auto Parts. They had black in stock but ordered and had the gray the next day.
Any brushes, rollers, etc. that the coating dries on is toast. _________________ I didn't touch it. I swear.

Thanks, Bob. I have been to the big "A" many times and of course then have been through Marietta. My bed may have the original paint on it. The rest of the car has been repainted, however the bed is not much to look at. I have always thought that the liner would look good on it. The franchise places are quite proud money wise so I have considered the DIY method. Sounds like a good product, may give it a shot. _________________ Jim

Great advice and reviews on the herculiner product. I'm very impressed with it and have now installed it on my elk and my fathers. Just wondering though if any of you have issues with it fading? I've read that its a fairly common problem, and that there is a coating to put over the top thats made by herculiner to stop it. Rhino liners have the same issue supposedly.
Thanks for any input
