Replaced my fuel filter last weekend and discovered that the spring inside the casing was missing. I can't seem to find it, does anyone know what the part number is and where I could find the spring?

if its the little brass fuel filter thats at the end of the line in the carb its really not that necessary it wont chang a thing its porpose is let fuel bypass around the filter IF its cloged so you dont get stuck some where b/c of a cloged filter. as far as geting the spring hit up a carb shop that might help

Not sure where you can get one, but the spring holds the filter in place against the inlet to the needle valve.

Remove that over restrictive bronze filter and install a good in-line filter

The '86 has a paper filter right at the carburetor fuel line inlet.
