It has been a good weekend for the truck. Yesterday was talked about previously, and today I managed to get the dash, cab, climate control, and glove box lights, along with the radio and the horn working. These were all things that up until a few hours ago did not work. I feel like I am driving a new car!

A lot was fixed when I replaced the 20A fuse (thanks again, Ernie), but some were a little more involved.....like the dash lights. I figured after 21 years, the bulbs (all but one) were burnt out. Onced I finally got the dash pod removed, I moved a couple of bulbs just to make sure. And of course no matter which ine I put in the working socket, it illuminated, meaning the bulbs were fine. After an hour I reallized that the ribbon cable was cut right after where the first bulb makes contact. It was hard to see, but it was there. I managed to jumper it out and now I have lights!

Anybody know if these ribbons are still available new and where I can get one? It is fine for now, but I would like to put an original back in there.

Side bar: Did the 87 stock radio ever come with a CD player? I know that might be pushing it, but I am trying to maintain the stock look....at least for now.

Just wanted to share my excitment for the day...

Duane

Wow Duane, you really have been busy!

No, they are not available new. You'll need to get a good one from a working dash pod. Be aware that there are two types, one for gauges and one for idiot lights.

No, there was never a CD player as an option in a 5th gen. However, there was one available in the Camaro and Corvette. It is a perfect fit but you'll need a wiring harness adaptor. Here is one on ebay

Thanks for the info, Ernie.

Yes yesterday was a busy day. Forgot to mention the cruise control also works now. That little 20A fuse controls a lot of stuff!
