Hybrid as in transplanting LS1's into your elky? I think if someone made a elky hybrid they just wasted their money and should of used a more compact and lighter vehicle such as a 91 Honda Civic Wagon.

I think i disagree with you on that one. i think it would be a great idea, especially with the high gas prices right now. I think if you could still retain performance, and have it switch to electic when you are just cruising around town, that would be awesome. just like the new yukons and tahoes, they still have their 6.0L Vortecs, but also have an electric motor. apparently the switch between gas to electic power is seamless, and sometimes like Lexus, the electric motor and gas motor work together to create even more power under hard accelleration. you could still have all the power you want, but gain ALOT of MPG.
just my opinion,
Spencer

haha that would be awesome! i wasnt really commenting on making your elky a hybrid, more along the lines of all cars should be hybrid lol. i think it would be better for the environment, and cheaper as technology develops.

if thats the case Spencer99 then im all for it.
Im just baseing my respones one the prius. correct me if im wrong but they get 35 mpg if thats the case then there building a crock of a hybrid. i dont know if you guys heard of a mustang (it was the 5.0 body style) that this guy has been building for ten years thats 500+ hp something like 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds and gets 110 miles to a gallon on vegetable oil, go figer. the hybrids there comeing out with are shams. look him up i saw this on the news earlyer this year, i dont know if he has a web site i wouldent doubt it though. i also wouldent doubt if a major manif bought him out and destroyed it along with buying all the pattents

I bought a Prius for the wife and it really surprized me on the power they have get this 293 ft/lbs of torque using both engine and electric motors when needed. She gets 48mpg overall 52mpg hwy and if you can keep it under 45mph you can get up to 60 which I have just driving around town keeping to the streets. Plus it has more leg room both front and rear then most mid size cars. 10 year 120000mi. warranty bumper to bumper.

I did not buy this to be green either, it is a well built car. also it cost $27,000 so your gain in milage does not justiy your investment. I bought it because it is a nice car.

yea i actually dont mind the prius's and they can get around 60 mpg quiet easily. thats cool to hear about that mustang, but the problem with running vegetable oil is that it takes alot to get the oil (planting, growing, harvesting, refining process, ect.). I think its more of a hastle than its worth. that whole deal with E85 ethanol didnt make any money at all, and personally, id rather eat my grain then burn it in my car lol.

If the Prius really got 35mpg then they wouldnt be releasing the 5'th gen of them in 2010 and with 50 more horsepower and 10 more MPG. They might get 35mpg due to wrong driving habits! But the Prius is the only FULL 100% Hybrid and is the best one in the nation...The Civic CANNOT touch the Prius.

does anyone know what an environmental wreck the batteries are.

ya you reduce carbon emmissions, but the production of the batteriesis probably worse, and then you have to figure in disposal of said battery when it dies, ya I've heard that toyota buys them back but what about the ones they don't get back?

combining two good things doan't uasually make one better thing.

hey thats a good point. i never thought of that. i know the new batteries are lithium ion, not acid based like car batteries. but i never thought of how they would dispose of them. i guess we have that same problem with household batteries aswell. im pretty sure they are non toxic and can be recycled...
