Hi everyone. I'm new to this site and was wondering if I could get some help decided how much an el camino is worth that i'm about to buy. Here are the details:
-1973 El Camino SS
-Guy claims when he bought it, he drove it home and everything worked beautifully 3 years ago.
-Not original 350
-car has been sitting for 3 years in a garage and only starts by pouring gas in the carb
-otherwise it just turns over
-3 years ago he put on a new 670 holley carb, fuel pump and hoses, and jegs dual exhaust but hasnt driven it since
-4:56 rear end
-aluminum intake
-headers
-was a manual, is now an automatic with a B&M shifter
-Comes with new dash, and interior is in rough shape
-some holes in floor pan.
-dented oil pan, but comes with replacement
-trasmission leaks, not sure where from, maybe the pan
- couple small rust holes in corner of bed
- little bondo, body is straight and good shape rust wise (besides a couple of spots)
- shinny paint job but, couple spots where paint is chipping and dull
- very clean underneath
-asking 2800
I'm calling him today and making an offer. Any ideas on what it's worth?? any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have your work cut out for you !! Why don't you relax --Take a Deep Breathe and ask around the Web Site--I have seen some Great deals on Members Cars. In fact --check out what is for sale on the Site and Advertise WHAT YOU ARE Looking for !! I know the guys that frequent this site will be happy to find or help you find a Great Elky that won't cost you the bank and not fall off the Frame with Rust--Remember GOOD BONES !!!! Well, I think the 73 ss is one of the best looking Elks, I wouldnt pay more than $2000 for what you described. You prob pay $2000 more to get it running well. _________________ As loud as the devil and as fast as greased lightning. Too cool for school and too hot to handle.
Trust me on this one no one is in a hurry to buy a gas guzzleing project car right now. so like Canuck Choo Choo said take a deep breath and stand back wight the pros and cons from the sound of it i wouldent pay a cent over $1200 for it. If you already have a daily driver and are looking for a project car to get your hands dirty with then do it but offer him a grand then go from there. A car thats been siting that long has to have some thing wrong othere then a needed rebuit carb with it, thats why he stoped driveing it. (Example) i almost bought a 86 with a 454 in but my causin had a cop friend run the plates and on it turns out it was a 79 with a bunch of tickets here in california you cant register a car unless those tickets are paid for no matter if it has a new owner. thats why it was siting for a year and some change plus the damn thing dident have power steering. good luck _________________

Using eBay (little e for evil) as a guide, you can figure about $6,000 value for a good looking and good driving elky. Not a collectable or frame off restoration but a good daily driver that you will not be embarrassed to be seen in.
Figure your body and engine repair costs. Say $1650 for a light engine overhaul, $750 for floor pans, $100 for carpet and $400 for a decent interior. Don't forget window felts, tires, rims, new gas tank, lines, and brakes. Fourth generation parts are hard to come by in case you did not know.
Then there is the suspension. A good rebuild will cost you $500 in just parts.
I have been there, bud. Don't get caught up in the moment. Add up what it will cost you in the long run to get the truck you want and see if you can live with the price of your dream. Yes, the '73 SS is a great model, I have one.
