I suggest a bench grinder, some coarse, medium and fine buffing wheels and the different buffing compounds (also coarse to fine)...oh yeah some elbow grease. I'm doing a set of GTA wheels, they take time because of having to use a hand drill, but so far I'm really happy with the way they're turning out. The wheels had clearcoat on them, I used Mar Hyde aircraft stripper to remove it. I've removed some really light to deep scratches out of the wheels and will re-clearcoat them when done buffing them out. As long as you don't have any dents in the trim, they should turn out like new. Take your time and be careful not to snag the trim in the buffing wheel or you could bend it. It's time consuming, but worth it. You can try using a hand held drill, but I think for trim work the bench grinder would work better.

If you have a dremel tool using that with the small buffing attachment. Easy to control and works good on wheel trim molding.

I think the wheel arch trim on our elky's is anodized alluminun the only way to get it back to original shine is by having it reanodized the more you buff the more anodizing you take off and get into the all. base which will never shine likee chrome been there jim

what do yall think of this one? oven cleaner to remove the anodized coating, then buff it out? would it work, or is it more complicated than that?

Yeah, it might work. But like TexasJim said, it won't shine like chrome after the anodized coating has been removed.

I thought the wheel trim was Stainless Steel, I might be wrong.

On both my '85 and '87 the chrome is aluminum. I think after polishing and clear coating them they would look good. But I also believe thats way too much hassle considering GM replacements are still available and not too pricey. I bought a couple not too long ago from NPD.

Buffing should help, but as cleaners go. A good one is called bright boy. You can get it at a janitorial supply store.

well, I've got the BX8 body molding (conquista), so replacing it will get expensive because it's all over the body... I just need to replace one peice that was beat up.

I believe the original wheel trim rings were aluminum. You might have after-market replacements.
